Joke Causes Toledo Mayor To Disconnect Phone Number

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Those calling the city of Toledo’s purchasing department got a greeting they did not expect. A flaw in the city's phone system allowed someone to record an unflattering comment about Mayor Carty Finkbeiner.

The recording stated, "Carty Finkbeiner is a complete moron."

The person who recorded the greeting said it was easy to do. He said there were no security codes and he could do it from any phone, anywhere. City officials were pretty surprised.

"The information technology department is looking into what happened here," said Katerina Bekyarska, Mayor Finkbeiner's interim spokesperson. "The only thing we know is someone obviously played a joke. Not a very smart one, in my opinion, but we're looking into it."
