Why didn't we wait a bit before condemning McCain?
Just a question. With the choices for the Republican nominee pared down to McCain and Huckabee, why couldn't we have waited until McCain was confirmed before getting the political machine geared up to smash him to smithereens?

Huckabee would have been easy to dismiss--most big cities and non-rabid religious folk would have taken his fundie beliefs and turned him into green goo, but McCain had some--not enough, but some moderate beliefs that might have pleased non-Democratic voters.

But now, as we get the discredit press going, we do it in such a time when the other side actually might come up with some kind of opposition to him that possibly would please many Repuke voters. I'm not saying that's a realistic POV, but as I've noted in the past, I never say never anymore.

In fact, while Rove isn't in the white house anymore, he is still part of the most offensive ministers of propaganda ever to exist, and by damaging McCain so early in the process, he, Grover Norquist and everyone else associated with the right-wing juggernaut, will have many more months to make up stories, find the hidden dirt and quickly launch an attack against our people, while the attacks on McCain came too early to sustain any outrage closer to the actual election.

While we know that there is more that meets the eye in the final analysis, the average joe or jill on the streets knows little to nothing about any of the candidates, and it's going to be rather a guessing game on their end when they see so much muckraking on the part of the Democratic nominees, and the end will make McCain look better than either HRC or BO, and will encourage them to vote for the one who isn't shown in the poor light closer to the GE.

Unless we can keep up a sustained and constant anti-McCain campaign from now to voting day in November, we will be unable to get the people in this country from voting for our candidate, whether it's Obama or Clinton. We're putting the proverbial cart before the horse, and we're going to be stuck with another puke for the next four years. You might disagree with me, which is everyone's right, but logically, I think we're blowing our wad WAY too early to do damage in the GE.

1. Is McCain really being condemned?
I think those that liked MCCain enough to vote for him in the primaries still like him.

IMO, it's hardly a scandal that a politician has had some dealings with a lobbyist.

Even the politicians who say they don't.

Most Amerians have a lot more on their plate to worry about.

3. Why in the world do you think "WE" had anything to do with this?????
Trust me--the NYT IS NOT us!

At this point, it's more a question for the various Republican candidates than the Democrats, OKAY?

4. "We" don't have to condemn McCain
He did that all on his own:

WHAT, I ask you, could be more
condemning than THAT?

5. "Find the hidden dirt"... Maybe we ought to get a candidate
with no "hidden dirt". Gee what an amazing trait that would be in a candidate. Honesty.
