Like my grandfather before me, I am a Democrat

"We are the party of the poor that don't have a voice" my grandfather used to say. My grandparents were two houses away to the South. My uncle's home was in between. My mom was coming home from a short trip next door. I was just six years old when on a sick day from school I told my mom the news said " JFK had been shot"

I've never left the party of "the poor, the downtrodden" I hope DUers understand my point.

1. Unlike my grandfathers, I am a Democrat
I realized that the Party of Lincoln no longer was the party my grandfathers thought it was. It was interested only in supporting the rich capitalist--something that neither of them would ever be, nor did they want to be.

2. As far as I know it's run in my family for generations.
Then again, being taught to think for ourselves and make intelligent decisions also runs in the family. :)

3. In 1968, I was 16 years old and I asked my Uncle Bub (Herbert)
why he was such a die-hard, yellow-dog Democrat. And he reached over and lifted his withered right arm (he had had polio as a boy) and said, "The Democrats said that this was not my fault and that I should not be penalized for it. I owe my life and the lives of my children to the Democratic Party." I was a Democrat from that day forward - no questions. I do not think that the Democratic party of today is the same one that made my Uncle the proud man that he was. I cry for that...I really do...

4. I hear ya.
In early June, 1968 I went to the airport with my sister and her best friend, I was just 8 years old, but I remember that man waving from the tarmac.

He was Bobby Kennedy. I'll always be a Dem, an Edwards Dem.
