Harold Ford: Making Life Harder For Jim Himes
By: Jane Hamsher Friday February 22, 2008 4:40 pm

Unseating an incumbent is tough any time. But the GOP has put millions of dollars into Chris Shays' district (including $6 million for affordable housing -- conveniently Jim Himes' signature issue) in order to help the lone Republican congressman remaining in the northeast keep his seat.

So Himes not only has to run against Shays' formidable incumbency and fundraising advantages, he also has to run against the US Treasury. So why is Harold Ford, head of the DLC, making it more difficult?

Congressman Ford speaks at OPEN Visions

When Harold Ford, Jr. walked onto the Quick Center stage for his OPEN Visions forum he knew whose district he was standing in.

"There is not a better Congressman in Washington than Chris Shays," said Ford, to a crowd of about 600 Fairfield University students and community members.

"No national legislator has been to Iraq more times than Chris Shays."

Shays, who was also in attendence, responded, "The reason Harold Ford likes me so much is because when I realized that I wasn't going to be president, I went up to him and told him that he was one of the three legislator's that I thought would someday."

3. I can't believe I supported this jackoff in 2006

My cousin in TN told me he'd have a good chance to take the senate seat for the Dems so I sent a few bucks to his campaign. He lost and immediately turned into Joe lieberman jr. Now you can't tell the difference between this douchebag and your run of the mill repub.

7. I still like him. Until I hear him say something that offends me
I will stick with him. I think he got a dirty deal in the election. And I think a lot more of him than BO, peronality wise. He's no smartaleck, he's intellegent, not arrogant the kind of person you could talk to. BO is snooty and would just as soon wipe his feet on us.

9. Without trying to start a riot, why do you think Obama is snooty?
I've never understood why people say that.

13. He struts around with his head throwed back looking down his
nose at people. Ugh. I'll take Ford anytime, he's down to earth and not cocky and smartalecky.

6. Ford has always been a blue dog dem...
I live in Tennessee, and Harold lost that race because his family is notoriously criminal... they don't call the Fords the "Memphis Mafia" for nuthin'.

8. He lost that race because of the scandal started by his opponent
about him and white women. Untrue and unfair.
