330 days until George W. Bush gets away with it - and one thing YOU can do
Unless Congress grows a spine before November, George W. Bush is going to escape impeachment and thus get away with his crimes. However, there is something that each and every one of you can do to help make sure that our next Democratic President does not entertain the notion of pardoning Bush. When it's time for your precinct caucus/convention, introduce this resolution at the caucus:

A RESOLUTION
OPPOSING PARDON FOR PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND SEVERAL MEMBERS OF HIS ADMINISTRATION

Precinct #____________

County/Senatorial District #__________

____________ County, State/Commonwealth of ______________

WHEREAS,
in the conduct of the office of President of the United States, George Walker Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has planned, prepared, and conspired to commit crimes against the peace by leading the United States into an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq in violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, the Nuremberg Charter, Judgment, and Principles, the Kellogg-Brand Pact, U.S. Army Field Manual 27-10 (1956), numerous other international treaties and agreements, and the Constitution of the United States, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, has committed the United States to acts of war without Congressional consent and contrary to the United Nations Charter and international law, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States, and

WHEREAS, George Walker Bush, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush was knowingly and consciously rendered material and logistic aid and assistance by Richard Bruce Cheney, in the conduct of the office of Vice President of the United States, and

WHEREAS, Richard Bruce Cheney, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office, and

WHEREAS, in pursuit of an undeclared and aggressive war against Iraq, George Walker Bush was knowingly and consciously rendered material and logistic aid and assistance by Donald Henry Rumsfeld, in the conduct of the office of Secretary of Defense of the United States,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the nominee designated by the Democratic Party of the United States of America to run for the office of President of the United States in 2008 shall in no wise grant, issue, or offer any Presidential pardon or amnesty of any form to George Walker Bush, Richard Bruce Cheney, or Donald Henry Rumsfeld, on an individual basis or in any collective designation of the aforementioned persons.

Adopted by Precinct # _______ in County/Senatorial District # _____

of ____________ County, ____________ on insert date here.

I'm planning on introducing this resolution at my precinct convention, and I dare anyone there to speak up and explain why this should not pass.

2. Do you know of an organization that
is willing to pursue the bushes in court? I'd be very willing to donate.

3. Offhand, I don't...
I know the Bushes are making all this noise about moving to Dallas (in other words, just down the street from me), but I wouldn't be surprised if they instead high-tail it to their ranch in Paraguay where George can escape charges in an American court.

4. The pardon is only good on US soil. Nothing would prevent the EU from
charging him with war crimes. That's our plan B. Push for war crime charges against the bush junta.

7. Always good to have a Plan B - thanks!
Although, in Herr Decider's case, I think a Plan C and Plan D would also be prudent.

Just as long as the Oaf of Office winds up behind prison bars. With Cheney as his cellmate.

9. Firing them (impeaching) means nothing to multimillionaires. They can
make a lot more money in the private sector. The only real punishment is prison. Prison for sociopaths like bush and cheney is not really punishment because they can't be reformed. Putting them in prison for life is an act of self defense. As long as they walk the streets as free men, they are a dire threat to humanity. Spending the rest of their lives in a cage is the only way to protect society from their threat.

15. That's technically possible, but never gonna happen
Didn't you know? If you are the biggest and baddest kid on the block, then the rules do not apply. The only things that could be brought up against Bush are crimes that occurred outside the US, being that the Constitution is (or used to be) the suprene authority within our borders. I think Bush is sufficiently insulated from the Iraq fiasco and all the humanitarian niceties it brought with it, because there was technically a broad coalition of countries... albeit tiny countries with like 15 troops. But all of this exists solely on the assumption that elections will take place as scheduled.

8. Kicking this! It's also a FIRST-CLASS framing. (number of days) left until bush gets away with it.
DAMN that's good!

A really superb way to word what unfortunately is, or will be, fact by the end of the year.

We need him IMPEACHED. And I don't know if it will ever happen. It needs to happen, though, to send a signal to other would-be dictators coming along in later years - that you DON'T get away with abuses of power and violations of the law/Constitution. If it's allowed in his case, others after him will get away with far more. Do NOT become complacent enough to think that this is the worst it'll ever get. That's what we thought with Nixon. There WILL be someone worse someday, and there won't be any mechanism in place anymore to stop him/her. And there'll be a mighty useful, and effective, template for that person to follow.

14. Unless McCain is Prez, Bushco's crimes won't disappear
I fully expect Obama to open independent investigations into pretty much the entire Gov. We need a Government self audit, to help expose Bush et al. The only snags in this are thus: Bush pardons his entire admin, including himself (this is technically constitutional, but never been tested.) Or he could pardon everybody, resign at 11:55pm on Jan 19, make Cheney Prez for 8 hours so that Dubya can be pardoned. Anyway, none of it will matter because SCOTUS is nothing more than a Bush rubberstamp.
