Part II: America's popular culture is owned by the oligarchy in control.
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 03:20 PM by originalpckelly

By way of pervasive ownership, the oligarchy in control of this country exercises complete, yet often unrecognized, control over what we taste, smell, see, feel and hear.

Your clothes were probably made/sold by a big corporation, controlled by oligarchs.
Your perfume/cologne was probably made/sold by a big corporation, controlled by oligarchs.
Your food was probably grown/made/sold by a big corporation, controlled by oligarchs.
Your music was probably owned/sold by a big corporation, controlled by oligarchs.
Your news programs were owned/made by big corporations, controlled by oligarchs.
Your bullshit TV shows like American Idol were produced/owned/pushed by big corporations, controlled by oligarchs.

Most of our popular culture owned by this oligarchy. You may choose what you buy, but they choose what is sold.

1. WHO RULES AMERICA?

The nation's most highly published writer on the American power structure,
Dr. G. William Domhoff, spends two programs clearly describing how power is
wielded, by whom, and for whose benefit in this country. The author of
"Who Rules America Now?" and "The Higher Circles" weaves together
the intricate economic, political and sociological aspects of the people and
institutions which interlock to control the U.S.

In the second in this two-part series on the American power structure
William Domhoff emphasizes how the power system works politically and how
individuals are brought up into the Power Elite by prominent members of the
ruling class. He also describes the local power structures, how they
interconnect with the national power structure, and how they differ in their
operation and primary interests from the national control group.

Michael Parenti - Terrorism, Globalism & Conspiracy

"Coincidence Theory: By shear chance things just happen repeatedly and coincidentally to benefit their interests without any conscious connivance by them, which is most uncanny. There is also: Stupidity Theory, Innocence Theory, Momentary Aberration Theory, Incompetence Theory, Unintended Consequences Theory and Innocent Cultural Proclivities Theory."

3. Not mine
I have mitigated much of the damage cause by corporate culture by NOT consuming.

I buy used clothes and have been wearing some of the same clothes for 15 years that weren't destroyed by hurricane Katrina.
Perfume/cologne, what's that?
I buy only organic food and try to go to restaurants which do the same
I make my own music and only purchase music by unknown artists sold by small labels or the musicians themselves
Ok, I sometimes watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, and ocassionally CSPAN, or magazines like the New Yorker
I have never watched American Idol or any other progra... OK, I like Stargate and American Movie Classics/Turner Classic Movies, The History Channel (sometimes) and Animal Planet :D

5. Oh, that won't work.
It's the ability of rich people to take profits from work they didn't do that is the problem.

7. If you are willing to take risk you can earn a living
in front of a pc trading stock. This is making money from "others" work. We all have choices here. A very poor man can make himself very wealthy without "taking" from others.

If you are willing to spend MORE time or money you can find things that are not corporate. You can grow food. Commission art, write a musical score.

You cant grow a car. There are choices you can pay more for clothes not made in china. If you want italian shoes and english shirts and suits you will pay.

I see your point but we are not puppets. We can

9. corporate fascism, its the wave of the future

corporate fascism, actually its the reality of the present, and I don't see that changing in my lifetime. no matter whether Obama or Clinton or anybody else wins, big money always wins, and the winning candidate always needs big money to win.
