If you heard Rachel Maddow's interview with Paul Rieckhoff, you heard them talk about Iraqis who helped the US military and how their lives are at risk. Of course, they're getting ZERO help from this useless administration.
Here's an excerpt from their website:
Here you will find background on the crisis faced by Iraqi refugees – specifically those who aided the United States in its attempt to rebuild Iraq. They rejoiced at the toppling of Saddam, and signed up to help. Their belief in America has now made them the most hunted class in Iraq, where they flee routine death threats, abduction, assassination, torture, and extortion. Their faith in American democracy cost them their country. Now they need our help.
You can join the struggle to honor these Iraqis' sacrifices through this website. Their names are part of a list compiled by Kirk Johnson, a former employee of the U.S. Agency for International Development in Baghdad and Fallujah. Many individuals on the list are his former colleagues; all worked for the US Government, the military, or American reconstruction contractors operating in Iraq.http://www.thelistproject.orgThere is so much need out there for so many different causes; we're all stretched pretty thin. But if you still have something left of yourself to give, please consider helping them. It's not just donations. Sometimes, they need help with logistics, like hosting an individual or family for a couple of months to help them get settled here -- if they are able to reach the US! Or just sign up for their newsletter to keep in touch with what's going on regarding Iraqi refugees. This is one organization that needs more visibility, so if you know someone in the news media, please mention it to them.
Please keep this k&r, so as many people as possible will see it ... the more visibility, the better their chances of getting more help.
