6-year-old barred from school over haircut
A kindergartner's mohawk haircut has gotten him spiked from school.

Michelle Barile said her 6-year-old son usually gets compliments when he sports his newly-cut, spiked mohawk in public.

But at Parma Community School, the attention attracted by Bryan Ruda's hair was enough to get him suspended on Monday.

The board of Constellation Community Schools -- which operates the Parma school and 16 other charter schools in Northeast Ohio -- decided over the weekend to bar Bryan from school.

IMHO the board are a bunch of jerks. I taught kids karate and while I thought some of the kids hairstyles a bit silly at times, it's a free country, and it sure didn't distract any of the other kids. I think the only one's distracted in this case is the stupid board. Don't they have better things to do?

4. Right before I shaved my head a few weeks ago, the wife gave me a mohawk
And then we, uh...., had some adult fun

Here is a pic of me with it:

8. What's more distracting
to the other kids, the hair cut or the all the adults freaking out over it? Most of the kids I see around that age don't seem to be nearly as concerned about superficial stuff like hair style as older kids or adults.

9. There's a lesson in this for the children.
It's that you can absolutely freak out authority-type adults with little things like hairstyles.

If we kicked every kid out of my school who has a weird haircut, we would have pretty poor attendance. LOL

12. I see college students with foot-high Mohawks.

And on days where major companies are here to do interviews, they're wearing a foot-high Mohawk and a sharp looking suit. It's funny as hell.

13. that's far less distracting than when my daughter cut her own bangs
I'm sure we all have that one photo from when we were 5 or 6, right? The bangs are either completely gone or a big chunk in the middle is missing.

It's hair. It grows back.

Excuse me, but Miley Cyrus' dad Billy Ray Cyrus had the worst haircut ever, and look at his daughter now!

I went to the local mall tonight, for the first time in over a year, and all I could see was 6th grade girls with MULLETS! :o No actually, they were worse than 80's/90's mullets....they were shelf mullets. Weird-ass haircuts that made me cringe.

So what, so kids get funny haircuts. Does that make them bad kids? No. Does that make them weird? Apparently not, these days.
I was seen as a little "weird" as a teenager in the 1980's for having fun hair.

"Weird" is relative these days.

So are grounds for suspension, apparently.

Shaking my head in disbeleef... Ok I was also suspended from 1 grade once.. But that was because I was really pissed off, and trow a stone in the head of someone.. And I have to say, the 3 day I was suspended from School that year, was possible the best 3 day I had in 1 grade... Many bullied me... I know it was wrong then, I know it are wrong today.. But then I was in fear, they was trying their best to get my hear on fire.... So I guess I have some "right" then to protect myself?

If I would say it, the kid looks cute in the haircut if I was to say my point...

24. They'd have LOVED me then...
Granted, I wasn't school age yet when I got my first haircut, but I was close! I was your quintessential early 70s hippie kid in 1973 at the age of four, with hair down to my butt and I LOVED it. When I had to get it chopped short I cried almost the whole damn day. :(

25. That's just fucking STUPID. I attended school with a mohawk twice....
Once when I was six, because my dad's barber learned his craft
in the Marine Corps, and had very specific ideas about what
the phrase "short along the sides" meant...

And once again when I was sixteen...because it was 1985. :silly:

Got a few comments both times, but I never got expelled.

That school principal...well, as my friend Russ used to say:
"A firm blow above the eye might do him some good".

26. A 127 page student-parent handbook?
What in the world is up with that? What in the world do they have to spell out that runs to 127 pages? I realize that this is a charter school and they can make up any rules they want and require the parents and children to follow them or else, but really, it is silliness to penalize a child for his haircut. And I doubt very much that his fellow students even noticed the hair. Kids at that age (and I know first hand because I have a soon to be 6 year old daughter) are remarkably self-centered and don't pay much attention to anything that doesn't impact them directly.
