Sigh. . . . You were right. . Cunningham was set up.
The only reason this is getting the air it is, is because it frames the angry old man as less insane. His campaign went to Cunningham asking for "red meat" knowing full well that he would sound howling-at-the-moon nuts to most (i.e. un engaged, one eye on American Idol) Americans...

Now McCrazy gets to have it both ways.. "It's a free country, Cunningham is entitled to say what he wants" and "but not on my stage" (wink wink)

2. You got it.
And it's amazing how being perceived as not being quite as racist as some of your supporters is an effective strategy for so many Republicans. :banghead:

4. My take on it.
Not only does it attempt to make him look less insane, it seems to me that it is an attempt to make both Clinton and Obama look more "insane". Here you have the two of them (and their supporters) sniping at each other while McCain makes a show of being civil and magnanimous by "defending" Obama. It's so transparent and disgusting.

7. I said this in an earlier thread...
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 11:40 AM by TwoSparkles
I heard this bastard Cunningham saying this about Barack Obama..

"Let's talk about Barack, and that rhymes with Iraq--Hussein Obama, and that rhymes with Osama."

Okaaaaaaay.

As I said, I'm out here in the cheap seats, in Iowa--and I knew what a vitriolic, name-calling
bastard Cunnigham was. He CONSTANTLY refers to Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama." Anyone who knows
this guy's name, knows that he does this. McCain and his Republicans would definitely know this.

Please. McCain didn't know. Riiiiiiight. :eyes:

9. double frame
first, as you said.

It also frames the rabid reich radioheads as truly bizarre assholes. And for that alone, I rather enjoy it.

10. Here's a novel idea...
Instead of being embarrassed every time a right wing nutjob uses Obama's middle name, let's co-op his name for ourselves and use it every time we can. We can then get people used to the idea that their possible next president has "Hussein" as their middle name.

Hussein is a common name in the Middle East. The moderate King of Jordan was King Hussein. His son now rules Jordan (His name escapes me).

Say it loud. HIS NAME IS BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!!

Big deal!! So what!! Whoop de fucking doo!! Etc.

Better get used to this. Since Obama's middle name is Hussein, expect the Republicans to get all the mileage they can out of this; the Muslim connection of his name (his father was a Muslim Kenyan), notwithstanding the fact that Barack Hussein Obama is a Christian. But they'll be playing to the most ignorant of their base who will believe any lies that the party tells them.

2) Are you condoning this type of attitude?

12. When McAss has the mic, he can say that Chelsea Clinton is ugly because Janet Reno is her father.
But he repudiates Cunningham? Whatever.

He's not offended by Cunningham. He just saw the situation as a chance to have his own Sistah Souljah moment. But it may backfire on him among the predatory right wing base. Limpballs is already raking him over the coals for it--and I think he was ready to defend McAss, in the wake of his lttle bimbo eruption, last week.

13. I don't think its working out for McCain.
Cunningham was on tv last night (CNN) blasting McCain. He is truly pissed at McCain and insists he is not a conservative. He says he won't support him.

And today Cunningham is on the radio still blasting him and says he does not represent Repub values. So, this is not really working out in McCain's favor.

15. That doesn't ring true with me - at least half of it.
I seriously doubt showing off the spitting Cunningham was a gambit to display the relative sanity of McCain. The idea of McCain as crazy is limited to liberal blogs and some radio shows. If anything, McCain is still trying to convince rightwingers that he IS as crazy as they are. That's probably why they invited Cunningham in the first place - to appeal to the bed-wetting fearful screamers who are convinced that Obama is an Al Qaeda sleeper agent (you better believe that will be the whisper campaign if Obama is nominated - it's as sure as the sunrise).
