KO talked about this, last night.Calling her I think she won his "Worst Person" award for the night. He reminded the viewers that Hutcheson voted against a bill that would have provided body armor for the troops.

3. Yesterday
Speaking about a Democratic proposal to force Iraq troop withdrawal within 120 days, Hutchison said Tuesday that such a proposal would "put a bullet right in the hearts of our troops who are there."

Hutchison had joined fellow Republican leaders to question the political motivations behind the 35th Iraq related vote in the Senate over the past year, and was trying to make the point that mandatory withdrawal on the heels of recent military success would undermine the troops.

But her choice of words made it sound like Democrats were advocating something that would kill U.S. troops, and it didn't go over well with Democratic leaders.

"Poor choice of words from a senator who voted against providing our troops with the body armor needed to stop bullets in the first place," said Rodell Mollineau, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

Of course, it's not *really* going red-meat. She's been bizarro far-far right since she first ran for office.

8. Lucky for the nation I don't think that's what she's aiming for just yet
I don't think she wants to be on the same ticket as McCain. If it would have been a different nominee she would have been begging for the slot though.

She's going to run for, and probably win, the Texas governor slot in 2010.

Lucky for America, unlucky for Texas.

10. yikjes, I had heard her bandied about as a VP on the Sunday shows
but hadn't heard the Gov bit. Hasn't the State suffered enough? First *, then Goodhair. Aren't her negatives pretty high in Texas?

11. Texas Republicans like her
Texas Republicans are not known for their brilliance. x(

Here's the news piece I was thinking of when I posted this:

Hutchinson Says She Has No Desire To Be Vice President

2/26/2008 3:13:17 PM Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, a popular Texas politician, said Tuesday that she has no interest in becoming Arizona Senator John McCain's vice presidential running mate.

“I don't want to be vice president. I've said that over and over again. I'm going in a different direction. I really do not want to be vice president,” Hutchinson said in an appearance on MSNBC.

When asked if she would decline an offer by McCain to join him at the top of the Republican ticket, she said there are many qualified individuals to run alongside McCain, the party's presumptive nominee. “He's got a lot of factors to consider. And what states he needs to carry, who are people qualified who have some national experience to be able to take over as president, some great governors,” Hutchinson said. “So I think that he's going to have ample choices.”

Hutchison, who is said to be considering a run for Texas governor in 2010, added, “I want to be helpful. I want to be on the team. I do not want to be vice president.”

Appearing on MSNBC's “News Live” program, she also predicted that McCain would win Texas' March 4 primary.

“I think Texans will love John McCain,” Hutchison said. “He is a maverick. He is a war hero. Texas is a very pro-military state, very patriotic state. And I think that they will love John McCain, both in the primary and the general election.”

Funny thing about that is Huckabee is polling just a few points below McCain since Texas Republicans dislike McCain so much.

She's hoping to rally some of the troops to his side when the truth is she's no more fond of him than the rest of the states Republicans. I hope that really stuck in her craw.

13. sweet
thanks for the links. I try to keep my ear to the ground on TX pols as I lived there for a number of years. I left in 2000 and since each year my knowledge base slips a little bit. And, of course, with Kay B I try to keep her out of my memory as much as possible. :scared:

So, why AREN'T we talking about withdrawing troops yet???? Oh, and LEAVING our troops in a war zone puts them at far greater risk of getting bullets "put in their hearts" than withdrawing them. What an idiotic comment!

12. my letter to our local paper-maybe be printed friday or sunday
On February 26,2008,Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison stated a recent Senate proposal introduced by Democrats would"put a bullet right in the hearts of our troops who are there."

Let's review Senator Hutchison's voting record:
October 2, 2003-Dodd Amendment "To provide an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000."
NAY
September 19, 2007-Webb Amendment"To specify minimum periods between deployment of units and members of the Armed Forces deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom."
NAY
March 14, 2006-Akaka Amendment"To increase Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes"
NAY
June 23, 2004-S. Amendment 2400"To assure that funding is provided for veterans health care each fiscal year to cover increases in population and inflation"
Nay
.March 10, 2004.Nelson Amdt. No. 2745 "To create a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes"
NAY
June 20, 2006-Dorgan Amdt. No. 4292 "To establish a special committee of the Senate to investigate the awarding and carrying out of contracts to conduct activities in Afghanistan and Iraq and to fight the war on terrorism."
NAY
March 21, 2003-Dorgan Amdt. No. 385 "To increase FY 2004 funding for the discretionary programs of the Department of Veterans Affairs by $1,019,000,000, so it matches the level proposed by a coalition of veterans groups in the Independent Budget; to decrease the deficit by a similar amount; and to use the unreconciled tax cut to pay for it."
NAY
I'll let your voting record speak for itself. As the mom, daughter, granddaughter and neice of veterans-how dare you even imply that a bill meant to bring our troops home safely is "putting a bullet through the hearts of our troops".Your support is evident.

14. She's my lovely Senatah
I called her office. I always say, "Hello, dear. My name is Ms. X." I'm always
asked, "Oh. Are EWE the one on X St?" I say, "Yes, dear." At least this time
she didn't threaten to call the cops because I was "harassing" the senatah.

When that happened, I said, "Look here, missy. She works for me. I'm telling
here what to do. If I have my way, she's going to get fired and so will you."

But that didn't happen this time. I said, "I would like to know what Ms.
Hutchison meant when she made that comment about democrats, bullets and soldiers."
Without my reading the quote and without missing a beat, she said, "I'm
sure she didn't mean it that way." I said, "I think she did. And I think
election day is going to be a sad, sad day for Ms. Hutchison. And she can
kiss my shiny metal ass."

Ah, that felt good for what it was worth.

15. Hutchinson's dumb-ass remarks are to be expected
I grew up in the same small town along the Texas gulf coast near Galveston as Kay (Bailey) Hutchinson so I knew her from K to grade12 and into college at the the University of Texas in Austin. She was an arrogant, snotty ass-hole throughout her young life and obviously she hasn't changed any at all as an adult and as a politician. Her unfortunate and dumb-ass partisan remarks are senseless and useless to a rational discussion of the Iraqi mess created and continued by her hero GWB. Is she really that incapable of rational thought that she says such incredibly stupid things? What a pathetic excuse she is as an elected representative. Perhaps she should retire from the Senate and return to being a TV weather reporter as she was before entering politics. At least her stupidity wouldn't be as obvious or as potentially dangerous to America.

18. The lack of a Dem reaction proves a larger point about Dems...
Remember the reaction to when Dick Durbin made his comments about what he felt when he read in FBI reports about the prisoner treatment by American soldiers?

Though it was on the Senate floor, the reaction was swift, powerful and unrelenting until he made an apology.

So, what do the Dems do when Hutchinson says this crap?

Nothing.....
