A Caller on with Laura Flanders Made a Good Point
The media itself, turns voters off, because the media tends to inflate the sensationalistic confrontational crap between candidates all too often, rather than focusing on the more substantial part of the process. How about where candidates are on issues alone? The media is fixated on exactly what turns MOST Americans off to the political process. Just look at what the percentage is of those that vote.

1. Amy Goodman was playing clips from last night's debate on Democracy Now!
I couldn't believe some of the fucking questions asked of the candidates. Tim Russert brought up that Louis Farrakhan endorsed Obama and then questioned Obama's loyalty to the Jewish community and Israel....

:wtf: does any of that have anything to do with anything?

I've yet to hear anything from the MSM regarding policy - it's all fluff bullshit! :nuke:

5. I think the Farrakhan question needed to be asked and answered
There was a time when peopple were very concerned about Louis Farrakhan. He spoke out often and it was never good.

10. Bullshit, it was an add-on to the Obama/Osama/Hussein/madrassa meme
It has nothing to do with anything.

2. I've said that the media goes after ratings by focusing on the sensational confrontational
aspects of the campaign, and even fans the flames. They ignore the issues and instead seem to try to bait one candidate into attacking the other. They have turned politic into some kind of a cage match type of entertainment.

3. we'd be so much better off without broadcast news....
make people read everything the candidates say...without any broadcast editorializing in terms of which soundbyte is the most exciting to the viewer

4. excellent points
maybe that's the main reason I long ago gave up listening to MSM for political news. I read papers and websites that talk about issues and then make up my own mind.

8. Yes, it's maddening
Some shows do occasionally admit that they focus on the "horserace" aspects of the election, favorability statistics, who's ahead in the money race, to the detriment of talking about the issues and candidates' positions and vetting them so that we aren't surprised by mob connections once they take office.\.

However, they then gloss over it by saying... it's what's "interesting." or that's what people "want to hear," because from the reporter's POV, they hear the same stump speech serveral times a day, every day.

They admit it without feeling the need to do anything about it.

9. I Have Heard People in the MSM Say That...
what they cover is the "interesting aspect of politics people would rather watch". I think that line they use is an excuse for them.
