Pulling out of Iraq Disaster
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 05:11 PM by stark6935
Don't you think the dem nominee has to address how exactly they will pull the troops out, and possibly make the "Time line" a little more flexible, based on advice from Generals? I think they need to be more flexible, and I don't believe they will just pull out on a certain date even if they say they will, because they have to monitor it. Do you think they need to kill this issue quick, and make it WAAAAAY more detailed?

3. I hate it as much as the next guy,
but I feel an obligation not to leave a country in the wrong hands now too. I know I may get flamed for this, but I think we have an obligation whether we duped into the war or not now.

2. I don't believe either Obama or Hillary would be irresponsible in drawing down troops--
they would certainly err on the side of caution, for our troops AND for Iraqis, and would certainly take advice from military and DoD leadership. But they will start to end the occupation. That's good enough for me, even if it takes longer than any of us expect.

5. Yeah
I don't think they would just leave irresponsibly either, but that is what the RW is going to paint them as. I think they need to refute it before it gets ugly.

8. It's going to be a sticky wicket, getting out of Iraq while minimizing
Edited on Wed Feb-27-08 05:23 PM by wienerdoggie
the risk to our troops--they are vulnerable during drawdowns. It's going to take a lot of planning, good logistics, and some are going to have to stay to protect the embassy and the oil, at the very least, even when most combat troops start coming home. We are going to have some sort of presence there for many years--I am confident of this. But better to stop wrecking our force structure, wasting our troops' lives, and bankrupting our treasury by ending the troop-heavy combat part of this fiasco, than to hang on indefinitely like the GOP wants to do--somebody is going to have to bite the bullet, and it won't be pretty, or easy, or as complete as some on DU expect.

9. "The Generals", by and large.. are READY TO GO.
They have seen up close & personal what this disasterous incursion has done to the troops, and the armed forces in general.. I doubt that there will be any lack of tactical planning to do it right.

11. But
they don't want to leave on an exact date, and that is what John McCain is going around saying to day is what we will do. The Gens are saying it wouldn't work to leave on an exact date.

12. only combat troops will be removed
or relocated. There will be 70,000 or so "support troops" in Iraq for fucking ever to "fight terrorists and defend our vital national security interests" on our forever bases. Haven't you heard??

and we will do the same thing again

Predicted this at the beginning
when the Dems voted to go to war

Another Wall will be put up in memory of the men and women who died

and 100,000's will die from Depleted uranium exposure
