McCain - Cunningham incident. Was it actually Pro-McCain propaganda?

Cunningham attacks Democrats with slurs and everything else.

McCain shows a little disdain for Cunningham.

McCain becomes a hero and is seen as a maverick once again.

We all know McCain won't be able to get the crazy right wing base, even though he is one of them, the only thing he can do is go a different route, the middle of the road.

Not out of the realm of possibility IMHO.

he needs to become a media darling again

and showing himself as a maverick is what the media loves.

But would he risk losing his base that got their adrenaline up with the possibilty to attack the dreaded evil New York Times.
