Help me to help a good Dem get elected
Hey there fellow DUers!

Michigan's 4th District has long been held by Dave Camp (R-Bushbot). He raises lots of corp. PAC $$ and is deep into the red end of the spectrum. He's been close friends with DOW in Midland MI and insurance companies & telecoms, all reflected in his votes.

Well we are fortunate enough to have a viable candidate this cycle and he's got an uphill battle ahead. He's a young lawyer (40) out of Saginaw, the most populated county in the Cong. District (which, BTW is 14 counties big!). The candidate's name is Andrew Concannon and he's a good Dem. Here is the early version of his web-site, we're working on a more complex one now: http://concannonforcongress.com/meet-andrew.html

Also, here's Andy's ActBlue page: http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/18799

As an aside, when I first found DU I was not at all actively involved in politics. I had always observed the national and international stuff but little else. I was so outraged by Bush vs. Gore I found DU to be the place for me. I lurked for several months and then started posting. As time went by, especially during the 2002 elections, I found the posts here from those who were on the ground, posting updates and accounts of activities, I finally sought out my county party. Well, that was about 6 years ago. Since then I have helped my county party in their quest to grow and get established, I've goteen elected as my Congressional District's chair and have, in general worked to spread the gospel of local involvement. I've managed a few campaigns along the way and now I am managing this Congressional race.

This is the life DU has led me too! I was misguided I tellya! ;-)

Anyway, with the numbers game being so important in races such as these I am turning to my fellow DUers. Your first quarter reports have to be impressive on at least two counts, amount raised and number of donors. Believe me we're working on it in the usual ways; finance calls, mailings and events but this is a District that has many unworked counties with no organization. We need the help of all you folks on the tubes. If you could visit and donate on Andy's ActBlue page or his web-site, well if lots of DUers did--even just $10!--it could make a big difference by the end of March.

I hope you will do what you can DU. Also, please help me keep this kicked so we can hopefully end the era of misrepresentation for the poor people of Michigna's 4th District.

Many thanks in advance for anything you all can do for this cause.

Julie

3. "Help me to help a good Dem get elected" This should be on EVERYONE's minds at DU
Electing a new Congress is the only way we will stop this war in Iraq. I always go straight for a candidates Iraq policy...

"The United States must repair the damage that has been done and find a successful resolution to the war in Iraq to allow the United States to bring its troops home without leaving Iraq in chaos.

This means our elected leaders need to set aside the rhetoric and work to use our military intelligently and effectively, while reaching out to our allies and Iraq’s neighbors to devise a workable diplomatic solution, complemented by military resources to maintain stability. While reasonable people can differ about whether the war in Iraq was a good idea in the first place, I believe we must find a responsible exit strategy that will allow for stability in Iraq before a complete U.S. withdrawal, recognizing that our commitment to Iraq is not open-ended.

At the same time that the Bush Administration has mismanaged the war in Iraq, squandering billions of dollars in contracts with little or no oversight, the 9/11 Commissioners revealed that it has failed to improve U.S. security since September 11th. From proposing to sell our ports to a Dubai company, to failures to screen all cargo on ships and commercial airlines, the Republican Administration has shown that it has misplaced priorities when it comes to protecting Homeland Security."

This person needs to be informed that no amount of our staying will fix things in Iraq.
Perhaps someone should send him the Kucinich plan for getting out in 90 days, or just a promise to vote against further funding would be fine.

There are many great Democrats running this upcoming election
http://peacecandidates.com/peace_candidate_list
But clearly there are not enough. We need to convince more great Democrats to run for office, and if DUers can do everything they can to get one elected in there area...this is the peaceful revolution folks. If you are out of a job- doesn't 160,000 year sound good? Work 8 months out of the year, paid staff does all the work. You could do worse than these two=watch this

Thanks for fighting for a new Congressmember in your area!!

6. Thanks for the kicks
I hope folks will take a look at this! It's not as glamorous as the WH dog and pony show but it's a way we little people can make a big difference.

7. Here is the first kick in March!!
I will help as much as I can. My wife and I were Huckleberry supporters the last couple of elections. Hopefully the Democratic Party from Montcalm county will be able to help. We need to get camp out. Let's hope that Andrew Concannon can do the job!
