Iran loses Russian support

Iran may lose the support of Russia, which says it is now prepared to support international sanctions against its ally.

Iran has been in dispute with the West over compliance in its nuclear program.

While Moscow has always backed Tehran, it now says Iran should immediately stop the enriching of uranium and co-operate unconditionally with International Atomic Energy Agency inspections.

Russia says it will back sanction talks in the UN next week if Tehran refuses to comply with the demands of other nations.

Major Western powers, especially the US, suspect Iran of working to achieve nuclear weapons capability.
