William F. Buckley Jr. Is Dead at 82
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/27/business/media/27cnd-buckley.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

William F. Buckley Jr., who marshaled polysyllabic exuberance, famously arched eyebrows and a refined, perspicacious mind to elevate conservatism to the center of American political discourse, died Wednesday at his home in Stamford, Conn. He was 82.

<snip>

Mr. Buckley suffered from diabetes and emphysema, his son Christopher said, although the exact cause of death was not immediately known. He was found at his desk in the study of his home, his son said. “He might have been working on a column,” Mr. Buckley said.

Good riddance. Enjoy your eternal stay in Hell, Mr. Buckley.

:)

5. when discovered, the body
was in an advanced state of decomposition. Buckley had apparently been dead as a doornail for at least fifteen years, the medical examiner estimates.

8. Why do so many here take joy
in one's death? It's disgusting. Agree with him or not, he was a great intellect that helped fuel a lot of debates we now have here at DU. I'm shocked at the recent attitude at DU. If you disagree, then you're told to burn in hell. Just look at GD:P.

Did I say I was fucking disgusted?

9. For me, it was that he wanted to tattoo HIV patients. That was fucking disgusting enough for me.
I am not taking "joy" in his death but I sure as hell will not mourn him.

11. Did he want to send
the HIV patients to a quarantied location?

12. !?!?! So you're OK with the tattoo as long as they weren't "quarantied"?

14. I'm not OK with the tattoo,
just putting things into perspective. Do you even know who wanted to exile HIV patients?

15. Yes, thanks, I lived through the HIV epidemic of the 80's
There is no "perspective" for someone who wanted to brand medical patients.

16. Who exiled patients?
And yes the perspective is important. As vile as branding would be, exile is as bad or worse. The conservative advocates branding and the liberal goes for exile. Both piss me off. Now, when the liberal dies, will you applaud his death because of his policies?

17. No one is jumping with joy over his death.
But for the LGBT community it resonates differently.

Buckley was not "a great intellect". He was merely another among a long list of conservatives that helped fuel homo-hate, which lead to the death of many in our community.

Forgive us for not celebrating the irrational debates he inspired that denigrated our community.
