23. Yes, she does. So does Edwards. In fact, everybody but Kucinich and Gravel, and neither will sniff |

the presidency. Honestly, I think the politicians are too afraid to touch it. It will, as always, take dedicated and concerned citizens to fight for human rights more than politicians. Politicians will not give them to us because the majority does not want us to have them.

24. True. But he did vote against the consitutional amendment to ban gay marriage |
|
and believes that decisions about gay marriage should be left to the states. I'm trying to make sure this state doesn't make a stupid decision on it. In general, online polls are only so effective, but azcentral.com actually is read and monitored by this state's political leaders.

"Obama says scripture say"?
And elsewhere Obama said that he intended to institute a Biblical theocracy of some kind?
Anyone with a nodding acquaintance with the Bible may also correctly state that the Bible says a great number of things, many of which would be poor policy guides in a secular democracy, such as we run here in the US.
The Bible says that eating shellfish is an abomination. Now, there are plenty of observant Kosher folk, who make just fine politicians. I never got the idea from any of them that they were looking to outlaw oysters.

There was another one like this recently in the Southwest -- not sure if it was Arizona or New Mexico.
For the love, what fucking year is this, anyway? I thought we were heading in the right direction.

We're historically very very red. We've made great strides lately, with a strong Dem governor and close elections (although they do go red, the blue percentage is getting larger each time) but we've still got a looooong way to go.
Hey, we are the "home state" of John McCain.

27. Yes, a similar measure was already defeated |
|
in the last election in AZ but it also barred civil unions. This one doesn't bar civil unions. The backers are hoping that will enable this one to pass.

The previous vote was pretty close which is why the backers of this current version think it will succeed. It could be that voters get irritated (as in, didn't we tell you we didn't want this already once?) or it could be that voters will be pleased (yes, this is more like what we would be in favor of). I did read something in the paper (which is generally far too right wing for my taste) that pointed out the stupidity of the thing considering that it is taking something that is illegal already and making it illegal. However, since I can't stomach the paper most of the time and don't read it closely, there very well could have been lots of articles/editorials in favor of it (and this is in the less right wing rag than some of the other local papers). It also depends on which election it is on the ballot. I actually think it might have a better chance of passing on the non-presidential ballot (which, at least here in Tempe, is on March 11th) because a lot more people are going to come out for the presidential election and especially more liberals (historically I think the conservatives are more likely to vote in the mid-year and local elections here than the liberals). On the other hand, liberals may be more energized this year which means they will come out for both elections while conservatives may stay home for both. It is really hard to tell.
