Has America shot its wad?
This country prospered by way of easy land, agriculture, and natural resources, insulated from European and Asian wars by two giant oceans.

Our democratic form of government gave us a head start on capitalism and investment, including academic investment.

Now the rest of the world is catching up. Technology that we for the most part created is easily transportable to countries with cheaper labor. Domestic oil and other energy sources are drying up and we can no longer inexpensively power our homes and factories. Students in foreign lands score significantly better in math and science.

Where do we go from here?

1. Just one serious correction
the isolated by two oceans is mostly a myth. People forget about the war of 1812 for example.

As to shooting our wad? As an empire, absolutely and I am not sure the country will survive is fall from empire status

12. Yep. I'm not so sure about the "technology,
for the most part (US-)created", either.

3. I think all empires have fallen apart when the cost of the military
exceeds the amount able to be pillaged.
Has America reached "peak pillage"? Dunno....maybe.

4. Restore democracy might be the first step to take.
Stop squandering the Treasury in imperial (and illegal) aggressions abroad should be next (or simultaneous).
Then a true UHC system.
Then raise taxes on off-shoring jobs, and stock profits, etc.
Then ... (many, many policies "by the people, for the people")...
Look what is being done in Finland, for example, about a true Educational system.
Then see where some of these will lead...

6. Freeing up the treasury and doing away with aggressions will be a
priority.

5. More socialism...
Capitalism can't compete with functioning socialist policies like they have in Europe and Japan.

9. Socialism "by the people, for the people", in place of the current...
communism "by the big corpo$, for the big corpo$" (at the expense of the people)

In short, restore:

"up is up"
"peace is peace"
"the law is the law" (true accountability, periodic "recalls" for all public servants, etc.)

7. We become a partner in the community of nations.
Rather than an imperial superpower.

That is my hope.

8. Catching up? The only folks in our rear view mirror are in the 3rd world,
and many of them are gaining.

The way I see it, we have two choices;

Stop the madness, withdraw from the global Ponzi scheme we created and rebuild our nation,

or continue to enrich the ruling class until one of several scenarios, none of which are pleasant for us, unfolds and the concept of America is lost.
