all purpose Hussein rebuttal
A woman just called into Stephanie Miller with reminder of a really good point.

King Hussein of Jordan was a much beloved leader and was our total ally.

It just means handsome one anyhow.

So there.

and subsequently overthrew him as an enemy.

4. It's really quite astounding what a colossal set up that was
especially with Rummie's complicity.

Not that he was Mr. Nice guy or anything.

2. Yes, my daughter asked me why anyone would name their child
Hussein and I told her about the old leader who stood beside the US for years. Few of us know our world history well enough to realize that there was a world before the Iraq war. I suspect that when it comes to rw idiots like limpballs and beck they really think the world started yesterday.

3. Yeah, I love the "handsome one" part.
The King Hussein part is cool too, but I'm not sure how many people will have any sort of tangible idea about who he was.

I do, however, intend to whip out "handsome one" at every chance I get!

NGU.

23. My father met King Hussein. He was decorated by him personally
after the close of the American medical mission to Jordan during the Black September uprising. He said King Hussein was short, handsome, charming, and dazzlingly charismatic. He was an admirer of the King until they day the King died. Back in the 70's, we moved from one of my Dad's Army assignments to another, and his Jordanian medal was lost in the move. He wrote to the King's personal secretary asking for a replacement.

He received a personal reply from King Hussein headed: "To Our great friend..." along with the medal and an autographed portrait of the King. It's hanging in my Dad's office in a place of honor.

How many Americans know how great King Hussein was?

10. How can anyone name their son 'John'
Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 01:55 PM by Angry Mollusk
Since John is the first name of John Wilkes Booth, the man who killed Pres Lincoln.

For that reason, I could never support John McCain- they might be related!!!!!

(I am speaking in jest- just to illustrate the idiocy of people who say they could never vote for Obama because his middle name is Hussein and his first name 'sounds like' Osama)

24. I've used the same logic around where I live. The area is heavily German descendants.
Whenever these knuckle-draggers use the Obama-Hussein-Muslim card, I say your name is German. My God, you must be related to Hitler. Or Himler. Or somebody from that era.

It pisses them off. But it shuts them up for a while, too.

Edited on Thu Feb-28-08 02:14 PM by NNN0LHI
Yea Bush renders people to this guys thugs to be tortured when our guys are too busy to do it themselves.

And as for the much beloved part why doesn't he ever have a popular election to see just how beloved he really is rather than just take the job handed to him by his daddy? Shades of Bush.

15. To my knowledge Jordan doesn't torture.
If I'm wrong in this assumption then please provide links.

King Hussein has been dead for quite a while.

His son and daughter in law seem really wise.

Jordan: Renditions - New report says Jordan is key hub in secret CIA programme

Posted: 24 July 2006

Country's notorious security agency's use of torture instrumental in 'war on terror'

Jordan is a key 'hub' in the USA's secret 'renditions' programme, said Amnesty International today (24 July), as it published a new report revealing the extent of illegal detention and torture in the country.

The 51-page report, 'Your confessions are ready for you to sign', describes the cases of dozens of individuals subjected to torture in Jordan, ten of whom appear to be rendition victims. These latter men had been taken to Jordan from a variety of countries - including Afghanistan, Pakistan, the USA and Indonesia - and were in several cases held and tortured for months before being further moved to places like Guantánamo Bay, the notorious 'Prison of Darkness'' in Afghanistan, and even apparently to totally secret 'black site' prisons.

In one case - of a man 'rendered' from Pakistan to Jordan - the plane involved was a known CIA Gulfstream jet. The following day the plane flew to Glasgow Prestwick airport in Scotland to refuel, before then returning to an airport near Washington in the United States.

Some detainees in Jordan have reportedly been held at a secret detention centre - al-Jafr prison - in a desert in south-east Jordan, said to be run in jointly by the Jordanian authorities and US intelligence agencies. Amnesty International is concerned that al-Jafr may amount to a 'black site' detention centre.
