I control a Sovereign Wealth Fund, I want to go shopping in the USA,
and I would very much appreciate your insider recommendations in the purchase of US assets.

Please describe the most valuable assets within your borders.

Thank You.

1. Well, there's this pig ranch near Crawford, TX, that should be snapped up ...
should its owner suddenly flee to Paraguay to avoid prosecution for his crimes against humanity. ;-)

5. We have a ton of freeways across the country, you should purchase them and turn them into
toll roads. Any of the public utilities would be a good investment.

7. Well, you could buy up all our national parks...
The Grand Canyon would make a nice place to dump trash. Like a huge dumpster.

Death Valley could be used to store hazardous wastes. No one goes there anyway except those losers who find beauty in its desolate expanse.

Yosemite Valley could be turned into a development of condos and shopping malls.

Yellowstone would make a nice place to put a health spa for those to go "to take the waters."

Badlands National Park could be turned into a huge private-prison complex. Why should prisoners have a "room with a view" anyway?

I'm sure there are more...

Does this help?

21. I'm not sure...I've only been around on the rim
However, to drive through it, I imagine you'd have to drive down one side of the canyon wall, then across the floor of the canyon, then back up the other side. Might take a while. Now, if you were to fill the canyon with the world's trash and garbage all the way to the rims, then you'd be able to drive straight on across from one side to the other! That would take a much shorter time.

And think of all the money you and your cronies would make selling dumping rights to the nations of the world!

22. No one has bought any ports, the best port operator in the world had a contract to
operate some ports but they "was dirty arabs," and that didn't set well with some. So propaganda was put out saying "the dirty arabs is buying our ports," enough bought it and now a foreign insurance company operates the ports, but at least they're Anglo.

24. *shrug*
I just remember all the hoopla in the news about the port management contracts. The real issue was that Dubai Ports World was state owned by the UAE. I think it was right to not have a state/gvt owned business take over the P&O contracts at US ports because it really can present a conflict of interest. P&O was a private company at least. If a state entity took over then, for example, would those DPW managed US ports then stop all business with Zim Lines, the state shipping company of Israel, who calls New York and Baltimore, two of the ports in question, because the UAE will not do business with Israel? Etc, etc. Could have been a logistics nightmare. But hey, no one was looking at the problems presented by the issue rationally, we were all brainwashed, right? We just thought it was all about national security and other BS like that. :eyes:

I work at a freight forwarder. If most people knew how many middlemen were involved in getting a piece of cargo from Point A to Point B, their eyes would glaze over. A state owned port manager doesn't need to be another middleman.

26. You're right. I stand corrected.
Hm. I wonder how they worked out that deal? That's really amazing. Inserting foot in mouth now.

Well, in that case, DPW taking over probably wouldn't have been too much of an issue, although I still don't support any state owned operators vs private ones in principle. If you want to think of if another way, it's like having the US Dept of Transportation doing stevedore service at the port of Singapore, or something. Makes little sense and makes everyone raise an eyebrow. Besides, during the buyout DPW could have let P&O be its private arm for international ops, perhaps incorporating differently, letting it keep its name, etc, and that would have worked out brilliantly. They certainly had to anticipate difficulty due to state connections, and not just in the USA, either.

I guess I can concede racism, etc, from Joe Sixpack about the ports deal. But I would hope you could also concede that there were other reasons it didn't work out.

27. I understand people had those concerns, I just think with DPW reputation
around the world they were outweighed by the benefit. I also think UAE and DPW put enough more emphasis on making money than the politics to let it effect business.

You'd think they would be smart enough to anticipate the reaction of non-industry people to a deal like that - just good business sense. Ugh, looks like Halliburton will get the business now. Figures.

I should be off to work...I have to figure out how to get 37,000 lbs of dirt from Ohio to Ghana. Joy. Why this guy can't use a supplier closer to Texas is anyone's guess.

29. I can make you a hell of a deal on a bridge.

Slightly used but still in excellent shape.
Lots of miles left on this baby.
And I can get you the Foreign Shopper's Discount.
Just send me your credit card number, date of expiration and that little 3 digit number on the back.
I'll take care of everything else.
Is that for here?
Or to go?
If it's to go, there will be a small shipping and handling charge.
