McCain enthusiastically accepts endorsement of anti-Catholic bigot
Yesterday, McCain stood with Pastor John Hagee and accepted the San Antonio preacher endorsement of his candidacy. Hagee is controversial in that he has made virulently anti-Catholic statements (as well as statements that nuclear war with Islam will usher in the Rapture. I have a post on my main blog with links to the Catholic league's denunciation of McCain of his support for Hagee as well as more information about Hagee's fringe views.

5. this is not a "bad" endorsement, since Hagee hates Arabs. and in the USA, that's just fine
Sick values, but it's america's values.

2. Will McCain receive the same scrutiny of this endorsement
by an extremist fanatical man as Hagee.....as Obama had to endure
with Farrakhan?....

I THINK NOT !

14. no, of course he won't get the same scrutiny.
he's like a dog--it doesn't matter how he gets it, he's just happy to be getting some.

4. Hagee is also an anti-Arab/Muslim nutcase. Supports genocide.
Truly believes in waging war against Iran... NOW
For him, all the evidence is in, and the US should start bombing very quickly.

Does not believe in any rights for Palestinians, and therefore is given reverential status at AIPAC conferences (more on that strange symbiosis here http://www.stopaipac.org/christianright.htm ). Despite the fact that he believes the holocaust was caused by "Jewish disobedience" to god)

In short, Hagee is a man of great hates, and great power.

6. Glenn Greenwald has an extensive post on Salon.com re Hagee
Greenwald has a thoughtful discussion not only about Hagee's religious bigotry but his extreme views and gay-bashing: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/02/28/hagee/

7. So seriously? What do we do to ensure this sort of stuff gets
the attention it deserves?

Questions at the debate to Obama, but where's the story with this? I can only imagine that vast swaths of US Catholics aren't going to be too pleased with this - how to be sure they KNOW about it?

10. This story has legs
I was one of the first to report on this. Since then, Glen Greenwald at Salon.com has written an article about it.

I e-mailed Alan Colmes about it. If Colmes broaches the subject on H & C, it could help give it legs (Note: I realize Colmes is a wimp but sometimes he pulls through).

Also, 2008 will be much different than 2004. In the past four years, sites like Media Matters have grown in influence. Also, shows like Keith Olbermann's have had a big impact on the national dialogue. I think if this story hits Olbermann's show, the national media won't be able to ignore it.

11. Perhaps not
I did a keyword search of "McCain Hagee" on Google News and the news reports don't mention Hagee's extremism and bigotry. However, I'm still cautiously optimistic.

13. Good Point! Also, national media is taking note
You're right. Of course, I doubt Hannity would bring it up. However, if Colmes brings it up on the show, it would really put Hannity on the spot.

Also, the national media is taking note, here's a link to a Washington Post blog post put up about an hour ago: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/02/28/mccain_endorsement_angers_cath.html

9. I'm sure when this bigoted hater spouts off some outrageous
intolerant bullshit, Saint McCain will be all over the airwaves apologizing and taking responsibility, and the media will just suck it up like cherry cola...:argh:
