McCain References ‘Democrat Party’

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/02/28/mccain-references-democrat-party/

<snip>

Given McCain’s reputation for reaching across the aisle and his daily pledge to treat Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton with respect, Washington Wire was a little surprised to hear McCain using the same language.

“One thing I’m not any good at predicting is the outcome of Democrat elections,” he said Tuesday aboard his bus, dubbed the Straight Talk Express. A day earlier, he had mentioned his “Democrat friends” to a Cleveland-area audience.

Asked aboard his bus about the “ic,” he replied, “I’m sorry, I usually say Democratic. They prefer Democratic, so I try to say Democratic… It offends some members of their party, so I’ll say Democratic if that’s what makes them feel better.”

But his resolve didn’t last long. Later on that same ride, he was talking about his annoyance that Democrats take credit for the improving situation in Iraq. “To say, as Sen. Obama has said, that it’s because of the Democrat majority that we have experienced success in Iraq, that’s just beyond comprehension.”

At times, he does say “Democratic,” but the alternate usage is not unusual. On Wednesday, he preceded another round of Obama criticism with, “I did not watch the Democrat debate last night, but …”

1. Does his "Democrat" reference bug you? If so, he'll keep doing it over and over and over.
Ann Coulter feeds off the hate she gets from the left.

Are you going to feed McCain's insanity as well?

6. True. To the surprise of no one.
The pleasant old grandpa image will soon give way to the cranky old man.

7. It bothers me and it needs to be pointed out
It's all about the media and perceptions and words. Policy will play very little role in this election.

8. There is no perception problem in Democrat versus Democratic.
To raise a stink about it makes us look petty.

Let it go.

10. Wrong. This is the kind of stuff that kills us.
Accepting THEIR description of us is not the way to go. I refer to people how they wish to be referred to. It's a sign of respect.

It's like all these debate questions I hear from assholes like Williams nad Russert. You know, stuff like "well how can you refute the perception that Democrats are weak on terror?" If you accept the premise then you've lost before you even answer the question.

If some guy's name is Joseph and he prefers to be called Joseph - the I don't refer to him as Joey. It's about respect. Ridicule is the best way to diminish your opponent.

11. I understand your point and don't disagree. However, it is critical to choose our battles.
This one will pale in comparison to the coming pestilence.

13. We win on the issues. We lose on the media/perception front.
Unfortunately the media/perception front is more important than the issues in terms of winning elections. That's why little things like the IC in Democratic are important.

If this election was about the public's disgust with the Bush Admins' policy in Iraq and this unending disastrous war then McCain would be polling about 30% against either HRC or BO. But he's not is he? How can you explain that? 70% of the people hate the war and want out yet the candidate who wants to stay in Iraq forever is leading in the polls? Makes no sense but the reality is that prez elections are irrational events to begin with. They are all about image and perception. We can't cede any ground to these assholes when it comes to the battle of language and the war of words.

9. F that hero crap
You can't beat McCain by prefacing every statment with "while I have great respect for Senator McCain's service to his country" or "while I think that Senator McCain is a great American." People hear that shit and say "well if he's a hero or a great American I guess I'll vote for him then."

McCain is given too much respect.

5. I really hope he does that during the debates.
I hope he does it right to Obama's face. I'm dying to hear his response.
