Karl Rove's attack dogs continue...

If you are new to the Don Siegelman vs. Karl Rove saga, then you have catching up to do. Please see here for a collection of links and other information.

##

Now for the latest. It is as though every major and minor publication in Alabama is running to declare itself a propaganda outlet for the Alabama GOP. So far, only the Tuscaloosa News is showing itself to be actual journalism.

The latest propaganda piece comes by way of the The Press Register, and their editorial attacking 60 Minutes and defending corruption by way of disinformation and dishonesty. Below are some examples from this latest hit piece, as well as my comments for your reading pleasure.

"THE PRODUCERS of the CBS television show "60 Minutes" should plead guilty to bad journalism for their clumsy attempt to portray former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman as the victim of a Karl Rove-led conspiracy."

Why is it a clumsy attempt when Karl Rove's own history is filled with examples of exactly this type of abuse? (See HERE, or HERE, or just Google his name). Why is this editorial not including background information that shows a pattern of abuses by Karl Rove and his team-Rove sidekicks, like Jim Dyke? Why is the editorial not including the allegations made by Nick Bailey? Why is this editorial not including the FACT that 52 former state attorney generals - of both parties - are demanding an investigation into this case? Is 60 Minutes part of a conspiracy with these 52 individuals of both parties? Why is this editorial not addressing the myriad of questions surrounding the investigation and trial of Don Siegelman as they pertain to US Attorney Leura Canary, her husband Bill Canary, and Karl Rove? (see above cited links for the full background).

5. There seems to be a concerted effort to make the Siegelman issue about journalists
and bloggers, instead of about the core issue of politization of justice.
The story is Don Siegleman prosecuted for political purposes.
The story is not about the journalists or bloggers or editorials.

To me, the focus on the people reporting the story seems a distraction from the core issue.
But, hey, some people are into reporting on how reporters report, and that is valid journalism too.

I think spin is a very short story:

"What happened to Don Siegelman is now a public debate, and, as usual, spin doctors are at work." End of "spin" story.

9. Also using typical tactic of thugs - label the FACTS as 'conspiracy theory' and
anyone repeating the facts become conspiracy theorists.

16. I wrote back into a Birmingham News editorial where
they were blaming Simpson for their own failure to report her part of the Rove story. I hope it scared the pants off of them that someone so far away knew what they were pulling.

18. It's amazing how organized their tactics!
They are so fascist-like, it's,...incredible. It's incredible they aren't getting their asses thumped on the stump of democracy.

These people really need to be reigned in because they are enemies to every single value Americans hold close to heart!

11. K&R for those that will NGU!
Here's a link to the Source Watch page profiling Department of Justice Criminal Division's Alice S. Fisher. This is very important too as she was mentored by Michael Chertoff when very young, was a longtime friend of the Frist family and became a lobbyist for HCA-then was a recess appointment into the DoJ/CD where, despite objections to her lack of prosecutorial experience, her favorable views on torture, etc. Alice was given the "investigation" of Jack Abramoff as her first "assignment".

It is much worse than that, today-the profile was last updated January 2006--do a search on this loyal Bushie...

31. Yes, it's a frightening thing to witness.
I've told my husband that we might need to steer clear of that state, as we plan some road trips for the summer, although, the way gas is right now, we may just be motoring to a nearby suburb.

21. Rove is certainly roving
I just got back from Huffington, and in a post about the blackout, several of the posters all brought up points that were extreme right winger talking points. One post pointed out the the station owners were Kerry supporters - and that claim seems to be going without challenge. Another post seemed to drag Chelsea (yeah, Chelsea!) into it, the old Blame Clinton strategy.

I do agree this story is about Siegelman, and it should remain about him until he is a free man. I despise Carl as much as anyone, but it lets get Siegelman out of jail first.

Now here is some tinfoil for yall....Up in my part of the country, Boeing just lost a big contract that was going to bring as many as 8000 union jobs. The Air Force was expected to award the contract to Boeing, and at the very very last minute it went to a different corp who will be doing a lot of the work in Alabama, thanks to last min interference by Jeff Sessions. What type of news could dim the spotlight from Siegelman....

...about Alabama's leaders promoting it to industry as the next best thing to off-shoring jobs to the Third World.

32. I'd hope so.
It will be a great day for this country if any of this criminal gang is indicted.

Rove would be especially satisfying.
