My Senior Citizen best gal pal is voting this year for the first time in her life!!!!
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 07:05 PM by Hepburn
I am one of those people who has always voted...EVERY election from GE to a recall for the school board or a run-off for dog catcher. My best gal pal and I are about the same age...let's just say well over 55. She has NEVER in her life ever voted in any election. In fact, she has NEVER been registered to vote.

This is a very bright, informed, caring lady. When the firings of the USAttys started....her ears perked up and she got interested in things political. We talked and talked a lot. And.....she is talking to me the other day, and <drop dead in a faint> she wants to register to vote so in November she can vote for Barack Obama. She is even watching the debates and reading things like crazy....and after doing this, she made up her mind that she is registering as a Dem and voting for Obama!

I am telling you....this brought tears to my eyes to see her come alive and interested in making a change in our nation!

I am so happy I could :bounce:

3. Very cool! I love that so many people
are getting so inspired this year -- despite all of the bickering in various places (ahem), there is something about this election that is truly heartwarming. (I just hope to hell I feel the same way on Nov. 5!)

5. I am tellin' ya....
...in all the years I have been involved in political campaigns, I have NEVER seen what I am seeing as of late. I worked in the JFK campaign when I was in grade school and the ground swell def was there...but it is even more IMO with Obama.

IMO, the Dems are gonna take it ALL this year! :applause:

14. We're about the same age and I remember the Kennedy debate....
I was 5 and came from a VERY political family and yep, we watched the televised Kennedy/Nixon debate on the b/w television in my parents' bedroom. Dad was a Republican (he reformed later :P) who worked for Eisenhower's Justice department (under Herb Brownell) and we still lived in Washington, DC. I remember going to a Kennedy campaign office and finding it so exciting and electric. (The coolest, though, were the trams running back and forth in the Capitol's tunnels -- I loved those -- not even Kennedy could beat 'em.) Mom & Dad went to the inaugural -- I still have their invitations and tickets to everything. And I remember when Kennedy was killed (still in D.C.) and seeing how sad my parents were and watching them get ready to go the services. I remember how scary it all was and how I never did really feel that way again during elections....until now.

6. Is this great....or what!?!?!?
It is sooooooooo much fun watching the debates with her and IM'ing each other each morning with the latest political news. I never thought in my life I would see her get intested enough to vote. She just thought that it was a waste of time....until Obama!

12. She really spent a lot of time thinking about this.
I was an Edwards supporter and she decided she wanted Obama. She really looked things over and read and studied. I am so pleased that she got interested.

15. She absolutely hates Bush and wanted the Dems....
...to take the WH. When she got interested ~~ the firings of the USAttys is what caught her attention ~~ she decided as she watched more and more garbage come out of Washington that she wanted a Dem in the WH and that she had had it with Bush. The War in Iraq had her angry, too. But for some reason, it was like when BushCo played politics with the USAttys, that was the straw that pushed her to started getting very intersted in politics. I never thought she would actually register and vote. Could have knocked me over with a feather!

18. We are in Calif....
...they use Driver's Lic's for this. So...unless she wants to give up her license to drive, the government already has access to her for jury duty.

19. in illinois they do it by the voting rolls.
it must be a republican idea, because it does keep some people from registering to vote.
