No matter how hard you liberal America-haters try to deny it,

the United States is still Number One. If you doubt it, just reflect for a moment on how many First-Place positions we hold in world statistics:

We are Number One in incarceration. We not only have more people per capita in prison or jail, we have more inmates in absolute numbers than countries like China with four or five times our population.

We have the highest infant mortality rate among modern industrialized nations.

We not only devote more money to military expenditures than any other country, we spend more than the rest of the world combined.

We have a larger portion of our citizenry without health insurance than any other nation.

We not only have more billionaires than any other nation, we sustain the world’s largest gap in income between the rich and the poor--and furthermore, not content with our brilliant success in this arena, we continue to grow that gap at a rate greater than anywhere else in the world.

<<Edited to add the following, incorporating various suggestions; further edits to my eventual published version will follow if you keep posting stuff:>>

We have the industrialized world’s highest rate of unwed teen pregnancies.

In seven years of brilliant conservative leadership, we have soared to the number one position as the most-hated and most-feared nation on earth, as measured in worldwide polls.

Sadly, my friends, if we were to elect Democratic leaders to the White House and Congress this fall, I fear that their proposed policy changes would threaten our proud position of supremacy in every one of these areas. Please do not let America fall into mediocrity. Vote Republican.

Your help is actively solicited here. I want to build as long a list in this vein as I can to serve as the basis of a little editorializing.

8. ...
The report also underscores that women continue to get paid less than men.

Women in the United States who are 30 to 44 and who hold a university degree — meaning a bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate or medical degree — make only 62 percent of what similarly qualified men do.

That's a lower rate than in all but three of the 19 countries for which numbers are available. The nations with greater inequity in pay are Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland.

15. Aren't we close to the top for wasteful energy consumption?
And we have the most nuclear weapons, on hair trigger alert.

11. We have (by far) the world's largest current account deficit.
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 10:57 AM by Jim__
According to wikipedia. Note, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to verify this. China is on top, but that's because it has the world's largest current account surplus.

13. These might not be official numbers published
But I bet we are #1 for torture and the export of it. We do it ourselves, we send people to other countries for torture, and we teach other dictatorships how to do it properly.

Speaking of that, I bet we are #1 in the world for crushing democratically elected gov'ts- with China or Russia trailing second.

chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons on the planet.

Can someone dispute this if it's untrue? I'd kind of like to know...

17. First in war, first in pea...c.... first in war, anyway...
From this May 2007 article:

• First in weapons sales: Since 2001, US global military sales have totalled $10 billion to $13 billion. That’s a lot of weapons, but in fiscal 2006, the Pentagon broke its own recent record, inking arms sales agreements worth $21 billion.

• First in sales of surface-to-air missiles: From 2001 to 2005, the US delivered 2,099 surface-to-air missiles like the Sparrow and AMRAAM to nations in the developing world, 20 per cent more than Russia, the next largest supplier.

• First in sales of military ships: During that same period, the US sent 10 “major surface combatants,” such as aircraft carriers and destroyers, to developing nations. Collectively, the four major European weapons producers shipped 13.

• First in military training: A thoughtful empire knows that it’s not enough to send weapons; you have to teach people how to use them. The Pentagon plans on training the militaries of 138 nations in 2008 at a cost of nearly $90 million. No other nation comes close.

USA! USA! USA!
