The Christian Taliban was out in force picketing the Bi-Lo Arena last night: KID ROCK.

Kid Rock's in town! We happened to drive by the Bi-Lo Arena (Greenville, SC, home of Bob Jones "University") just before the Kid Rock concert started last night. There were several dozen pale, pudgy white men in polyester pants & jackets, and clip-on ties (I'm guessing there! But that is the Bo-Jo look.) walking the picket line on both sides of the street. The signs were in the vain of Fred Phelps' demented following .. very, very anti-gay (one sign said: GAY RIGHTS .. HEPATITIS, AIDS, SALVATION! .. I'm not quite sure I understand that one).

There was a lot of good-natured yelling from the young crowed making their way to the arena. The cops were everywhere .. paying absolutely no attention to the Christian Taliban. I did see one young fellow get in the face of a doughy proselytizer whose sign read DRUNKENNESS IS DAMNATION!.

I remarked to Dr. D. that if it was a group of us with signs saying STOP THE WAR! or IMPEACH THE BASTARD$!, our teeth would be all over the sidewalk. I do plan to check tomorrow to see if the Fundies had a permit to picket.

7. Reminds me of Ozzy in '83

I saw his show on a cold snowy March evening. Could not believe all of the bible pounders out there telling us that we were going to burn in hell for going into the arena. They were just yelling and screaming about God and salvation. For me it was somewhat entertaining and downright scary to see these people jacked up on thier owm beliefs and vocalizing it. Seems like the message has not changed but I wonder if the people preaching it back then have tempered thier message. Sure opened my eyes. They are a curious species indeed.
