What do you think about this and who is it directed towards, or against?
Just received this e-mail and it's a first for me. I take it as an anti-immigrant rant but it comes from the person who chastized me a few years ago, claiming I had to support * because 'he is OUR president'.:eyes: OTOH, the bit about tax exemptions, tax cuts, and free rides confuse me, especially because of the favoritism shown to the very wealthy and the size of the deficit since *. Any thoughts?

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some
exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the
prof noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back
and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him
he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting
communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's
government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a
strange question. He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young
man said that it was no joke.

"You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and
putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to
eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence
down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used
to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side
of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue
until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side..
The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to
eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole
herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and
around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to
eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to
forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity."

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees
happening in America . The government keeps pushing us toward
Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of
programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income tax
cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to
plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc.. While we continually lose
our freedoms, just a little at a time.

One should always remember two truths: There is no such thing as a free
lunch and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper
than you can do it yourself.

If you see that all of this wonderful government 'help' is a problem
confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this
on to your friends.

If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will
probably delete this email. But God help you when the gate slams shut!

The only thing I can add to this is a question for you......Which
candidates out there are most anxious to spread around the "feed corn",
and what might their motives be? Think about it..

. . . if hunting an animal took that long.

6. I've read this three times
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 06:36 PM by Patsy Stone
and I have no idea what it means.

I don't know why the guy started talking about pigs, or why he didn't just put up the damn fence and sprinkle out some corn to avoid getting shot in the first place.

I know, that's no help. Sorry. :)

7. Well, I guess it is time to dismantle
public education, and fire and police departments, and close down public roads, libraries, parks, sidewalks, sewage and water systems, etc. Damn that socialism!

Who provides the free corn? Archer-Daniels-Midland?

Same thing, isn't it?

9. The story seems to ignore the strength of pigs
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 06:27 PM by cornermouse
They are incredibly strong and can be quite determined. I doubt a temporary fence such as he describes could hold them. It also appears to ignore the fact that domestic pigs can be quite skittish (I can only imagine how skittish a wild pig would be), smart, and alert. I've never been around a wild pig, but I can't imagine this story having any basis in reality.

12. A penned-in wild pig would smash that fence flat
Extremely smart, and even more aggressive.

If you've ever hunted wild boar, you have to keep three things in mind.

First, never miss your first shot.
Second, pick a tree that you can climb quickly and stay close to it, in case you failed at #1.
Third, know full right well that all the time that you are hunting it, it is hunting YOU.

11. common libertarian pap
I regularly listen to Nova M/KPHX radio because I get the best of Air America
and Malloy as well.

On weekends, they have lots of local Phoenix shows most of which, I'm sure, pay for their time.

On Sundays, I listen to Shellie and Anita Drobneys show at 10 am cst
which is followed at 11 by the local libertarian hour (forget the name.

This morning the host was talking about how he was great friends with the progressives who run the station
and said something to the effect of " we libertarians just want govt to leave us alone, but these liberals
say but there's folks that are getting a raw deal and they need help. Well, I agree. I just don't think the govt
is the best entity to deliver this help"

The fucker never did say who he thought could do it better. But, he was very pro on working with progressives

13. We're already living inside the "pen".
Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 06:50 PM by Jim__
All natural sources of food have been destroyed or claimed as "property". We are completely dependent for food on the economic system. Currently, they're working on locking up all natural sources of water. If there is no control on the people who run the distribution system, large numbers of us are sure to starve (large numbers of people are already starving in various parts of the world). Either the government garuntees us access to food, or its revolution.

16. OR you could do this
A person could get a pack of dogs and drive them into a fence and feed them nothing.

If we are talking analogy. I think that is closer to what the government has been doing.

Also it characterizes Americans as preferring to live on social programs. There is not one person accepting public assistance who would not love to walk into the food stamp office and tell the sanctimonious person behind the desk to keep their food stamps as they now have a real job that actually pays a decent wage.

18. That's what I thought
I really thought it was more about mindless following the leader behavior.

And you could also put the "free corn" analogy to use on government contractors. They're certainly enjoying a huge pig out feast right now.

"..and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper

That argument could basically be extended to support communism.

oh, and its only true if you do not factor in quality.

21. So the reference is to the big wall Bushco is building along our peaceful borders to keep us in?
You might point out that for most of the last two and a half centuries we have lived in peace with our neighbors to the north and the south. We looked on the Berlin Wall as an act of barbarism by the communists and cheered when it was torn down.

And now we have a president who engages in perpetual fearmongering to turn us into a bellicose yet cowardly populace. And he builds a Great Wall or two.

Tell your erstwhile friend that I for one feel penned in -- by the Republicans running our government.

Hekate

'message' is.

I should have included this, but the person who sent the e-mail prefaced it with this:

Just delete if you don't "get it"---OKAY?
I am just passing on a VERY important
analogy from an old friend.
Scary possibilities----especially
in these times........
