what does "running" for a national delegate spot involve? |
|
I've just filled out my paperwork, but I read online that it's competitive. does anyone have experience with this? are there debates? does it cost money? do you call people? knock on doors? what does this mean?

1. I'm Working On It Myself Right Now |

Never done it before. I have many relatives in the Denver area, and I'm getting helpful advice and supports from many dedicated Democrats.

3. I don't consider myself the type that would "run" for anything |
|
so I'm guessing that it won't happen for me. it'd be nice if they took regular people.

2. The process isn't going to be same in every state. |

Your best bet would be to contact your state party officials. I live in a caucus state, and I know the process is completely different from states with a primary system.

4. The process is different in each state |

I went to the DNC delegate training in Ft. Bend County Texas a couple of weeks ago. One thing to remember is that the candidates has veto rights over their national delegates. If you gave money to the other campaign, they may not accept you.
In texas, you need to go to the precinct convention, to the county/state senate district convention and then the State Convention to be elected to go to Denver. They warned that being a national delegate will cost $3,000 or so unless you share a hotel room. I am going to go to the precinct convention and perhaps the State Senate District convention and see how it goes.
