Despite restrictions on recording while he spoke, I know he said: "We live in a country where dreams come true. This is why I believe America is worth fighting for and dying for" and "My mother never dreamed I would take her from the cotton fields to the Oval Office." (Neither did we!) Detractors from a peace coalition, wearing bright orange prison jumpsuits, turned their backs when time came to applaud.
AND while I'm on the dumpee attorney general, there's a paperback out titled "Idiots, Hypocrites, Demagogues and More Idiots." In it's a nice little section on missives sent by Harriet Miers to then Texas Gov. George W. Bush years before she became his instant Supreme Court nominee dumpee. One says: "You are the best!" (Exclamation is hers.) Another: "Keep up the good work. Texas is blessed!" (Exclamation is hers.) Another: "Cool! (Exclamation is hers.) Keep up the great work. The state is in great hands. Thanks for your personal sacrifice." Another: "Great speech! (Exclamation is hers.) Many good compliments in the audience!" (Second exclamation is also hers.) Another: "You're the greatest!" (Exclamation is hers.)
Oy! Exclamation is mine.
