Another shooting: Wendy's in West Palm Beach...
http://www.wpbf.com/news/15474521/detail.html

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Initial reports say that at least four people have been shot at a Wendy's restaurant in West Palm Beach, WPBF News 25 reported.

A shooter apparently entered the restaurant at Cherry Road and Military Trail and shot several individuals around 12:10 p.m. Monday, Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue spokesman Don Delucia told WPBF News 25. The shooter then reportedly shot himself, Delucia said.

I think a person's chances of being shot to death in the USA are much higher than being killed by an 'Islamofascist'.

11. Except in those States that make it hard to protect yourself

See the Article: http://www.kc3.com/editorial/what_the_media_dont_admit.htm

Here's why: Guns make us safer.

As gun ownership rises, violent crime drops. The more likely that a victim may be armed, the less likely that he - or she - will be attacked. And when victims are attacked, guns tilt the odds in their favor. Government data show that women who don't resist when confronted by an attacker end up seriously hurt 2.5 times more often than women who resist with a gun. For men, it's 1.4 times more often.

In an exhaustive marathon of research, University of Chicago Law School professor John Lott and economist David Mustard analyzed FBI crime records from all 3,054 US counties over a 19-year period (1977-1995). Nothing, they found, had a more decisive impact in lowering violent crime rates than the adoption of ''shall-issue'' laws - i.e., laws giving adults with no criminal record the right to carry concealed handguns.

Such laws are now in force in 31 states. ''Our most conservative estimates,'' writes Lott, ''show that by adopting shall-issue laws, states reduced murders by 8.5 percent, rapes by 5 percent, aggravated assaults by 7 percent, and robbery by 3 percent.'' The effect is especially pronounced in big cities. ''In counties with populations of more than 200,000, concealed-handgun laws produced an average drop in murder rates of more than 13 percent.''

Lott and Mustard used multiple-regression checks to correct their data for arrest and conviction rates, for prison sentences, and for new gun-control laws. The results were unambiguous: More concealed handguns, and increased gun ownership generally, drives down murder, robbery, and aggravated assault.

23. Yes, Florida even has an extended version of the Castle Doctrine
Unlike most states where your "castle" rights end at your doorstep or property boundary.

It didn't help in this case, OTOH it didn't make the situation any worse.

8. Here come the gunners in defense of the Second Amendment...
Here are the expected excuses:
1) The person was mentally unstable
2) The gun was not bought legally
3) Guns don't kill people. People kill people.

They can rationalize anything.

More crazy people running around loose and untreated?

Obviously the guy was mentally unstable, because only a mentally unstable person could do such a thing.

24. I wish all these threads didn't devolve into flame-fests about guns, and
there were more attention paid to the peculiar nature of these shootings.

What is with this - people showing up, shooting people, and then precipitously killing themselves. And the history of the shooter is always really vague - "Well, they saw a psychiatrist five years ago," or some crap like that.

What's going on here? Maybe people are really stressed out, which I can understand, given the current state of affairs in this country, but these incidents seem almost scripted. Just MHO.

28. The problem is, our society is sick...
And it's armed. So, guns are part of the problem. Very few people go berserk and manage to stab several people at once. Guns are an easy way to wound and kill, so even though it's only one part of the problem, it's big part.

25. My condlences to the victims and families.

Murder is a terrible thing and can happen randomly. This is why I carry a concealed gun where I can -- such as Wendys.

One never knows when someone with a gun, knife, machete, or anything dangerous could come into your life.

I'm grateful I am able to carry a concealed weapon and defend myself and others should I be able to.

32. I mentioned this in LBN
The shooter murdered a Palm Beach County Firefighter. He only went into the Wendy's because he had ordered a Kid's Meal for his daughter and there was no toy. This is very tragic. That should be the story. Not that we have that stupid Castle Doctrine. That wouldn't have saved anyone.
