Ohio -

Officials are preparing for voters to visit the polls in large numbers today for Ohio's primary election.

Brown County Board of Elections Deputy Director Kathy Long reported the county is looking
at 35 percent of registered voters casting ballots. This an increase since the last primary.
Long reported that in 2004, 28 percent of voters visited the polls. Long said Secretary of
State Jennifer Brunner predicts as many as 55 percent voting in the primaries.

Brown County has also seen an enormous rise in absentee ballots cast since any voter may now
vote absentee for any reason. Voters in the 2004 primary had to give a specific allowable
reason for the absentee vote.

Long said there was more than 1,300 absentee votes cast this year verses four years ago when
there were only 463 absentee votes cast.

There has also been an increase in voter registration, according to Long. The Board of Elections
currently has 98 17-year-olds registered.

All of the voting machines Brown County uses are paper ballot machines.
The machines allow privacy for voters.
