Long lines, signs out of gas? Demand up supply down, $104+ a barrel. What bullshit! We are imploding.

67. Basically anything that will store and has nutrient value.
You can buy 5 gallon containers that have airlock lids-
line them with plastic and fill them with grains and legumes and pasta.
Water, canned goods- canned fish (protein) fruits, veggies, also dried fruits and nuts.
http://www.redcross.org/images/pdfs/preparedness/A5055.pdf
Good site for basic common sense strategies.

Also store water, batteries and a radio, vitamins
and any medications that you might need.
Basically, all the things you would need in the event of a
natural disaster.
Only this disaster is brought to us courtesy of the
global elite who would be more than happy
if 2/3 of us were dead.

There are also many good books on urban survival.

38. Here's one.

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/newstex/AFX-0013-23545540.htm

For a while now, oil hasn't been the problem, refining capacity has been the problem. Add to that speculators on the futures market, and you end up with expensive oil.

Let's do the math. Dot-Com bubble. Money pours in. Bubble pops. Money pours out. It goes into Real Estate. Real Estate turns into bubble. Bubble pops. Money pours out. It goes into commodities (gold/oil)... Wonder what comes next.

Gold, like oil, is not in short supply. But it has been "demanded" into a high price. More gold is produced every year than is consumed.

People that are worried about bank failures are pulling their cash out and buying gold/silver. I have a feeling that when gold hits $1000, it will drop like a rock. There are probably a LOT of commodity traders who are waiting for it to hit the magic number. There are no fundamentals underlying the price of gold or oil at their current values.

The only question right now is, where will the money go next? I know people who are just leaving their money in low-yield but safe savings accounts to wait for things to settle down.

Oil Jumps on Surprise Supply Drop
By JOHN WILEN – 5 hours ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil surged Wednesday, rising a remarkable $5 a barrel to a new record over $104 after the government reported a surprise drop in crude oil stockpiles and OPEC held production levels steady.

Most analysts had expected the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration to report oil supplies rose last week for the eighth straight time. Instead, they fell by 3.1 million barrels.

In Vienna, meanwhile, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said it would hold production levels steady, at least for now.

45. From your article.
Many analysts believe oil's rally will be short-lived. Falling demand for overall petroleum products, which was down 3.4 percent over the last four weeks compared to the same time last year, suggest prices could drop steeply once the dollar-driven oil investment frenzy runs out of steam, analysts said.

While investors chose Wednesday to focus on last week's decline in oil supplies, analysts noted that oil inventories are at historic highs. Meanwhile, demand for gasoline is falling, and several forecasters have cut their oil demand growth predictions for this year.

"There are some very disturbing things in this report on the demand side," said Andrew Lebow, senior vice president at MF Global Inc. in New York.

51. Yes, but if you talk to people who lived through WWII, it sounds like it worked.
Everyone had the ration books with the stamps in them. They didn't like them, and there was a black market, to be sure, but most people couldn't afford the black market prices. So, the vast majority had to survive on rations and Victory Gardens (even though FDR himself admitted that they weren't entirely necessary but did them to help everyone feel a part of the war effort). It created community and a commonality that we could really use today.

52. Agree and am for it, but with no leadership to be found, how can it be accomplished?

Really, it's all up to WE, The People.

As with everything...

It's a matter of what we want, and what we go after...

58. Confidence??? ME??????
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

It's just how it is... IF WE, and that is a huge IF, and an iffier WE,
would actually DEMAND that is how it's gonna go, then it would happen.

Same with health care... we'll get it when we demand it, and not a second sooner.

With "liberals" continuuing to push regressive taxes, that's how it will go.

If "liberals" would pull their heads out.... :) :) :)

Nope, I don't have much confidence that's gonna happen.. but it's because of WE, The PEOPLE.... withoutspines.org ^_^

55. Well, there's the rub.
Another reason I wish Gore had run. *sigh*

I honestly think that there will be some attack of some kind in the next year or so. There's just no way we can't get every single plot and every single terrorist. If that happens and we have a Dem president, I'm hoping we use that opportunity to do it right--ration cards, Victory gardens, really support the troops, cut the fat in the Defense budget (Star Wars needs to die), and get our country back on track.

If there is no attack, and I pray there isn't, it'll be a slower process but still doable.

71. Demand at US pumps is not especially high, and supply is not that low...
...prices are through the roof because the dollar is being debased by the fed and because investors worldwide are speculating on commodities like CRUDE OIL now that US mortgage products have proven to be a poor investment...

79. That line-"US mortgage products have proven to be a poor investment...."
That line jumped out at me because it infuriates me all over again that so many a$$holes used the housing market as some kind of get rich scheme and the ones who are really going to pay the price for it are the middle class and poor. :argh:

I was in a working class neighborhood today and there were 2 empty houses next to a house for sale. As I drove on and passed several blocks, almost every corner had realtor for sale signs! Some were alongside FSBO signs with owner financing! I was struck by how many houses were for sale in such a small area and I got a really sick feeling in my stomach.

Had to come on DU the minute I got home to see what other people are saying about the economy. :scared:
