13. Given the Euro's greater value than the dollar - this doesn't make sense |
|
While I don't doubt that this French company can produce an outstanding product, I wonder how they won the contract over an American company and were found to be the cheaper source of the aircraft. Thirty billion I think would go a lot farther in the United States than abroad, but maybe I'm mistaken about this.

Edited on Wed Mar-05-08 08:05 PM by MadMaddie
McCain is the one one that wanted it reviewed and possibly changed. McCain hates Boeing...he was so arrogant that when he vistied WA he flew on an AirBus plane. Folks this is our Albatros around his neck lets use it. http://mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressOffice.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=cfd196cc-fbc8-4e2c-a815-91c969081e72&Region_id=&Issue_id=e746bb72-1e36-422a-b205-848b7b33fae0

31. Bush has engaged in these kinds of shenanigans before |
|
Remember in 2003 when the Bush Administration arranged to sell 48 F-16s to Poland? The deal was a virtual gift because it involved a loan with unbelievable terms and a 15 year repayment plan. It was called the "deal of the century" and a virtual gift, as well as corporate welfare to Lockheed Martin. Because Poland was offered those planes so cheaply, their negotiations with the French company Dassault (maker of the Mirage) fell through. Bush was trying to punish the French back then. And Bush used that deal to try to lure Poland away from "old Europe" and away from the influence of Brussels and the European Union. Later, he called on the Polish President to support his war in Iraq and used that deal and similar deals with other nations to try to form his coalition of the willing. Something tells me this deal with Airbus also has some geopolitical backstory to it, more than meets the eye.

But what I meant was don't be bummed when the Bushies get no more backlash and trouble than they got from turning the DOJ-Civil Rights Division to the Dept. of Minority Disenfranchisement, or any other of tne dozen of felonies they have openly committed.

25. Boeing was screwed by themselves, and the DoD. |
|
From what I've read...
1: The Dept. of Defense changed the project requirements late in the game, so the plane that Boeing proposed was not the best fit. If the DoD had made the change sooner, Boeing could have substituted the 777 instead of the 767 they bid.
2: Boeing *is* the company that had won this project a while back, but were caught bribing people to get the project. So that was canceled.
3: Are Boeing employees in Washington more American than Northrup employees in Alabama? If the new aircraft are built in Alabama, then the only jobs heading overseas (potentially) would be project managers and a the design/retrofit team.
C'est la vie. Boeing's the company that strung Denver and Dallas along while they tried to get Chicago to concede more to have them move their headquarters. Cities shouldn't have to bribe a company's executives to get them to move a site into town.

30. Ok, quick. Name every multibillion dollar aircraft company in Alabama. |
|
Northrup is just using a foreign chassis. If it's assembled here, cool deal.
The USAF isn't going to enter a contract for a replacement for their tanker fleet with somebody that can't handle it and long term servicing and parts.
There are very few companies on earth that can supply a top-10 military, let alone the largest one.

32. That will be the interesting part. |
|
If they're truly losing money, they could be doing to get their first foothold in the United States military supplier category.
If there's something shady going on, it will be found. Boeing's too well funded to let this slide by. If the story disappears, it's because there's no story.
