SurveyUSA: Dem Candidate Ahead In Special Election For Hastert's Seat

A new SurveyUSA poll, conducted for Roll Call, shows that the usually-Republican Illinois district of former Speaker Dennis Hastert may well switch to the Democrats in this Saturday's special election.

The poll showed Democratic candidate Bill Foster, a businessman and scientist, ahead of Republican dairy magnate Jim Oberweis by a 52%-47% margin.

The district voted 55%-44% for President Bush in 2004, but Foster has been helped by such diverse factors as Oberweis' past failed campaigns for governor and senator, the endorsement of the conservative Chicago Tribune, and this ad starring Barack Obama:

We received our Obama for Foster call last night. I had to put it on speaker phone so my DH could hear it as well :)
We'll both be at our neighborhood school/polling place on Saturday to cast our vote.

3. Whatever happened to Steven (?) Laesh? I seem to recall

he was running against Hastert in 06.

4. John Laesch lost by less than 400 votes to Foster.

He debated running a recount but decided to let Foster get the nomination. I've met John Laesch and he is such a lovely decent human being. He'll go back to being a union carpenter and continue his anti-war activities. I'm not sure if he'll go back into politics.

7. We met him at an outdoor event on the 4th 2 years ago.

He is truly a kind and caring person. I voted for him, and it was hard to see him lose by such a close margin. I credit him for doing the groundwork, and opening the door to Dem Politics in a once very red district. He sure gave hastert a run for his money! I just wish Hastert would have retired then, instead of campaigning on. We'd likely be seeing a different scenario right now.

I fully support Foster, and will be there to do my job as a Dem on Saturday. I just hope everything works out for Laesch, his hard work really did make the difference here.

Oberweis, aka the Milk Nazi, loses. The Chicago Tribune even endorsed Bill Foster. Oberweis and/or NRCC or whatever they're called, are running commercials in the Chicago area that are outright lies about Foster. The Milk Nazi is truly an obnoxious and typical Repuke. GO FOSTER!!!!!
