Poll question: SOUTHWEST = Southworst
the FAA knew that hundreds of SW flights were made with uninspected planes on 737s that were previously known to have fuselage, rudder and tail problems.

When you fly what do you do?

4. I'm Lucky, I Guess
I've never had a SW problem plane or airport.

US Air is the only airline I refuse to fly with.

15. WN
They did have a fatality, but it was on the ground, when the plane skidded off of the
Midway airport runway and crashed into a vehicle
:hi:

16. The floor show is great. too.
Most of the online list of wisecracks from the cockpit are from Southwest pilots and crew.

6. Haven't flown since 2000
and don't intend to try. Being a Muslim AND an environmentalist, I figure I'm on some list or another and don't want to take the chance.

8. If you think SW is iffy, try some of the little puddle-jumpers in other countries
Personally I'm a big fan of Bill Maher's concept of "Fuckit Airlines". Climb on, strap in, let's go!

As a pilot myself, I figure if the guys up front think it's OK to go, I'm cool with it.

9. Southwest has a pretty damned impressive safety record
I hate that they've made boarding a plane a contact sport, but they do get you there and do it cheaply and safely.

10. There are a few airlines that I will not fly with. SW wasn't one of them until
now! My son does those inspections during his job as a maintenance tech for one of the legacy carriers. They not only do their own, but also do contract work for others. To skip a mandatory Check is a HUGH NO NO! I'll be waiting to see what happens to SW because of these violations!

11. It's NOT Southwest's problem, it's BOEING'S! The 737 has had rudder problems
for a LONG time. Blame the FAA for not pushing the issue, and Boeing for trying to bury the issue, NOT Southwest. All they did was buy the airplanes.

19. partly true. the 737 has design problems, but the owner
has a duty to do seriously inmportant maintenance.

13. All of the very worst flights I've been on have been southwest.
Travelling sucks. Traveling Soutwest is S², where S=the suck coefficient.

14. The only time I fly Southwest is when my dad pays for it
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 01:28 PM by littlebit
with his rapid refund points. I live in NC my family lives in Amarillo TX. In order for me to get to Amarillo from here on Southwest I have to drive 100 miles to Raleigh. Then fly to Baltimore then Little Rock then Dallas and finally Amarillo. I will only do that for family emergencies. If it is a planned trip I fly Continental out of Greensboro. That way I only have to drive 40 miles to the airport and the only layover is a one hour stop in Houston.

17. I never fly Southwest
I usually fly Frontier or Continental. Ever since SW developed that policy that says their gate attendants have discretion to determine if you're too fat for one seat or not, I've refused to fly them. It's a discriminatory practice, because they don't use any measurements to determine who is 'too fat' or not. It's solely up to the gate attendant.

Also, I've stopped flying United now that they are charging if you have more than one check-in bag. All other airlines allow you 2 check-in bags, and United used to, until recently. Bloody money-hungry vultures.

I don't like to fly at all, but have to about 3-4 times a year to visit family. If I had more vacation time, I would drive or take the train.

18. I have to fly back and forth to Nashville a lot for work
and Nashville is their base. I have flown SW twice and will never do it again if I can avoid it. Same goes for United and American. Frontier is the only airline I will fly if it's at all feasible.

20. Southwest is a Unionized company with many hard-working Americans
It would be nice if you waited for the facts to come out before you disparage a whole company.
