Fluorescent License Plates Proposed for Sex Offenders
Fluorescent License Plates Proposed for Sex Offenders

SACRAMENTO, CA - A California lawmaker wants to require certain sex offenders to use specialized license plates that would distinguish the driver as a registered sex offender.

Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria, says Senate Bill 1163 would make the streets safer by helping the public better identify potentially dangerous sex offenders.

"SB 1163 will make sure that we know when these violent offenders are places where they don't belong," Maldonado said.

The measure would prohibit offenders accused of child sex crimes from operating a motor vehicle unless the car had a specialized license plate. Violators would face a misdemeanor charge.

9. Actually, fluorescent plates would be a fabulous idea for everybody.
It would mean greater visibility especially at night, and that would mean fewer accidents. If other drivers can see you, it's less likely they'll hit you by accident.

14. California plates are already reflective.
If your legally required plate lights are working, a California plate should be reflective enough to be seen up to 3/4's of a mile away at night. A parked car on the side of the road should be visible over a quarter mile away if you have your high beams on. Anyone with a California plate manufactured anytime in recent history already has one.

13. Why not just keep them in prison, if they can't be trusted?
I don't understand why 1 out of 100 Americans are in jail at this moment, but apparently child sex predators aren't bad enough to be locked up.

If a person is so monstrous they have to be monitored at all times, then why are they allowed out of prison? Is it because the jails are already overcrowded with people caught growing marijuana in their back yard?

Our criminal "justice" system seems to be really screwed up. imo.
