Dem takes Hasterts house seat. CNN.com - not a word
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 10:34 PM by KelleyKramer

This is a pretty big deal, a little over a year ago Hastert was the leader of the Republican congress.

Hastert had held that congressional office for over 20 years.

The Dems just took the seat in a special election.

Just for the heck of it, I just checked CNN.com and couldnt find a word about it anywhere

This is more than a big victory, its also a symbolic victory.. and doesnt bode well at all for the Repubs in november ...

Which I guess is why CNN doesnt want Americans to know anything about it.

Right Wing Media Hacks!

Edit: typos

1. Maybe because they're too busy SAYING it on the AIR?
:eyes:

They'll get to it, sheesh, it's not the fucking discovery of pennicillin; it's an important special election for a House seat. It's significant, but not a "Stop the Presses" moment.

15. Actually, it IS really important.

For the reasons stated in my OP, and will add...

The Repubs dumped tons of cash into this race to try to avoid a terrible embarrassment... almost a third of their entire house campaign war chest.

Its a big story so much so, i would bet in the next week -stop the presses- ... the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee will probably get fired for it.

2. CNN just announced on air, "A Political Earthquake" Foster takes Hastert's seat in Special Election
The story reported on AP as well. WGN9 is airing Foster now, live.

3. No, instead the a-holes on CNN are talking about comments about whether an Obama win would be seen
as a victory for Al Qaida!!!!

What scum....they are giving air time and discussion to an absolutely outrageous comment from a no-name rightwing nut Congressman named King who went on the radio stating that a win by Obama will be seen as a huge victory by Terrorists and Al Qaida. Then the CNN commentator Rick Sanchez had the audacity to start a discussion with others on his panel and say "Do you think this represents the thinking of more Americans who are just too embaressed to admit that they think the same?" WTF????

So instead of talking about how significant it is that Denny Hastert's seat is no longer Republican, that they concentrate on a discussion like this that is despicable and designed to tear Obama down and once again tie him to being a Muslim.

Gawd I hate these people...they call themselves the media....they are no such thing....they are shills, they are propagandists for the Corporations.....

Restoring Trust in the Vote

Alex Pelosi's new film "Diary of a Political Tourist" catches a tipsy Congressman Peter King making a comment at a White House function before the election had been finished that, "It's already over. The Election's over. We Won."

When Pelosi asks, "How do you know that?" King replies, "It's all over but the counting. And we'll take care of the counting."

To some, while not evidence of conspiracy, this is, at best, unseemly.

12. You have to live in this district
to really understand what a big deal this is. I believe it has been almost 40+ years since there has been a Democrat elected to congress in this district and this guy coat-tailed Lyndon Johnson in 1964 and then only lasted one term. This district is very very red but Obama and Durbin are both popular here and they both worked for this upset. The guy that lost was enthusiastically endorsed by Hastert in the Republican primary. There is big time GOP gloom tonight here in Illinois 14.

16. And the national repub party dumped over $1 million into it

They threw everything they had at it, McCain even endorsed their guy, and they spent almost a third of their entire congressional campaign funds on it.

They lost, and it wasnt even close.

Yes, a big deal indeed!

18. I Can Attest To 30 Of Those 40 Plus Years
In the 80's I used to joke that I was one of the few Democrats in Kane County and the "real" election was always the GOOP primary.

The area has been changing...lots of us city folks move further and further from the city and the once crimson red "collar" counties are now turning blue and purple.

Even more exciting is it looks like Democrats can pick up two more seats...the 10th and 11th in November.

This was a devestating loss to the GOOP...especially the RNCC...Tom Cole's tenure may be done...1/3rd the cash on hand gone with nothing to show for it and donor...who were skittish before...now have this big loss and an ongoing accounting scandal (aww let's just call it good old GOOP fraud)...and this loss could reverb in races across the country.

20. Do you happen to know what that one DEM's name
Edited on Sun Mar-09-08 09:01 AM by rosesaylavee
was that held the seat then? I thought it had been 40 years but heard an ABC chicago reporter say that no one had held a DEM seat out here in the history of the district.

And, yeah, its hard to describe how irrevocably RED this district has been for as long as I can remember. This place doesn't even have DEMS running for open seats because of the history that the R will win anyway.
