Anyone else notice something different about R. Maddow?
How can I bring this up and not seem sexist or infantile...

I'm wondering if maybe she might be heading for her own show on MSNBC or something and here's why:

Anyone else notice how her "physical" appearance has changed while on MSNBC? She is growing out her hair and wearing more make up - i.e....sexing it up.

(I'm really not trying to be disgusting or out of line - I'm just wondering.)

41. I don't think she's quite at the TV tart stage, either
She looks professional to me. And I think she's awfully smart and well-spoken.

3. she would be very welcome. I like her thinking.
Good poise, well informed, educated, nice voice, and she does not cave with assholes interrupting her.

plus, she likes women, and so do I. We just don't compete for the same ones.

5. It is not sexist or infantile to see
that Rachel, a lesbian, may not have originally opted for what you may call a "hollywood polished look". She tended to minimize make up and had a short hair cut, but if she needs to adapt to the corporate look to get her incredibly brilliant and well thought arguments out...i don't care. She is one of the best out there...Go Rachel.

47. No worries at all
it can be a hot topic. Should women, a lesbian woman, in this case be forced to adopt a more "acceptabe" image? Personally, hell no. She is who she is and damn anyone to make her conform. On the other hand, would a small shift in self image work to a greater good, that being her message. I say sure. As long as she does not comprimise her core beliefs, I think it good practice to adapt to what works as opposed to remaining rigid in a way that works against us.

37. She also has very pretty features, just naturally.
Makeup enhances her looks of course, but she is quite classically beautiful in her own right. I think she comes across as an extremely intelligent and actually nice person, who just happens to be blessed with "good" looks!

46. no argument there
she has incredible spirit and that shines thru regardless of her makeup, but unfortunately much of America may expect a "corporate polished" look. Crap, but if she is able to reach more viewers with her powerful message, I support it.

17. Rhodes Scholarship used to get PhD in Political Science Lincoln College, Oxford University - I like
her a lot for both personality and sharp mind (lives down the road with her mate in "central" Mass)

If I was younger and she wasn't gay .... sigh - but she is a very nice 36 year old lady.

I just wish she was not so harsh about Hillary - but she did have the guts to tell Tweety that part of the reason women came back to Hillary was his unfairness about Hillary - how can you not love her!

PhD in PolySci. I think she said she went to Georgetown on her show, many moons ago.

They do not hand out those degrees in the student union cafeteria line, either.

Have you caught the people hatin' on her around here lately? It's quite...sad, really.

wow. hatin on her?

rachel is (imo) the BEST out there.

smart, but not pretentious and "academic" sounding. wonkish, culturally tuned in, and a very broad encompassing thinker. she also articulates her ideas very well, without excess verbosity.

imo, she is just an outstanding voice for the left.

i like the fact that she can engage with all sorts- she was good on tucker, she's good with those on the left AND on the right.

i don't think there is anybody else in her league. to me, she is just a step above the others.

and of course, they are going to "gussy her up" a little. i have no problem with that whatsoever. it doesn't make her commentary any less insightful. she is not going to turn into (lord forbid) katie couric just because she's got a little rouge on or something.

"A graduate of Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, California, Maddow later obtained a degree in public policy from Stanford University in 1994. She then received a Rhodes Scholarship in 1995 and used it to obtain a Ph.D. in political science from Lincoln College, Oxford University. Maddow is believed to be the first openly gay American to be awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.<3><4>

"Her political activism has focused on AIDS and prisoners' rights, especially the prevention of the spread of HIV and AIDS in prisons. She is also an outspoken advocate for gay and lesbian issues, including same-sex marriage.

26. Brian Williams who listens to Rush every day wanted
to send her to Ted Haggart's school of Counseling but Rachel said Fuck you Brian.
That part isn't true, but he is a Rush Fan.

From the December 26, 2004, interview:

WILLIAMS: I do listen to Rush. I listen to it from a radio in my office, or depending on my day, if I'm in the car, I will listen to Rush. And he will tell you I've been listening for years. I think it's my duty to listen to Rush. I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due, because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country. No one was talking to them.

<...>

Rush said to millions of Americans, you have a home. Come with me. For three hours a day you can listen and hear the like-minded calling in from across the country,
and I'll read to you things perhaps you didn't see that are out there. I think Rush gave birth to the FOX News Channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster.

Brian Williams: Republicans' "go-to network anchor"? : http://mediamatters.org/items/200502070007

Brian Williams loaded Rush type questions to Democratic Candidates:

Here is a sample:

WILLIAMS: Senator Biden, a question for you. A friend of mine who's in the leadership of the Democratic Party says that if the party goes down a third straight time, what will happen is what he defined as modern-day extinction of the Democratic Party.

WILLIAMS: Senator Dodd, same question. How has this label been attached to the Democratic Party, that the Republicans will protect America best?
