When I have my Accountant's hat on and am busy doing tax returns... |

I always go balls to the wall in order to get my clients into the best possible tax situation...
I use to feel a little squeamish about somehow justifying this approach while professing to be a progressive democrat...
But you know what, until they change the tax laws, I feel I would be shirking my responsibility to my clients...
For instance, I have strong feelings against Capital Gains having special tax treatment over wages and interest...
But that doesn't stop me from plugging those numbers in and watching the tax advantage go into my clients pockets...
I ran for Congress, the same seat Dennis Kucinich now holds, and my slogan was the mind of an accountant but the heart of a democrat...
I didn't win, but I feel that would have been a great way to look at the tax code, the federal budget, the planning for social security...

1. Until they change the system... |

I follow the advice of a good doctor friend of mine..."pay all that you have to, but no more than you have to." The money we keep helps support charities and liberal causes...I feel no guilt in that, per se, but I want our tax structure reconfigured to make things equitable.
