Kristol’s VP picks: Clarence Thomas, Joe Lieberman

Kristol’s VP picks: Clarence Thomas, Joe Lieberman.

In his New York Times column today, Bill Kristol suggests some vice presidential choices to help Sen. John McCain “upend the normal dynamics of this year’s election“:

He could pick a hawkish and principled Democrat like Joe Lieberman. He could reach beyond the usual bevy of elected officials by tapping either David Petraeus or Raymond Odierno — the two generals who together, in an amazing demonstration of leadership and competence, turned the war in Iraq around last year. He could persuade the most impressive conservative in American public life, Clarence Thomas, to join the ticket.

Kristol also recently stated, “Mitt Romney would be good,” echoing the choice of the Bush family.

12. No, he won't -- there is no way to win with a ticket like that...
No independents will vote for them. He should pick him, for sure! Kristol is so tone deaf. Both picks are absolute disasters. Bush wants him to pick Romney -- that's a good one too. Talking about bad blood between the pres and vp nominees -- that one is even worse than Clinton and Obama!

13. Most Republicans wouldn't vote for Thomas...
They don't play that game, as Clownie would say.

4. Please pick Lieberman.
He was like a millstone around Al Gore's ankles--what makes McCain think he'll do any better on the (R) side of the ticket?

If they do this then the Democrats have a golden opportunity to cast them as "The Old White Guy Ticket" and just more of the same shit.

Clarence Thomas, the idiot who never says anything during court sessions and whose written opinions consist of "Whatever Scalia said" is "the most impressive conservative in American life??"

That's a hallucination if there ever was one.

8. "...the most impressive conservative in American public life?"
That Bill Kristol's one funny guy. I can't wait to see him weeping openly when McCain gets his ass handed to him by the voters in November.

11. That reads like something out of the Onion.

I would be willing to bet the average repuke actually thinks Lieberman is a Dem and would strongly disapprove of putting him on the ticket. And besides, he brings nothing to the table.

Clarence Thomas has uttered maybe 5 words since chimp senior made him a Supreme and reliably just votes however Scalia is voting, so the "impressive" meme is beyond ridiculous.

Romney was a loser of a candidate the base had no interest in.

Those suggestions really do make me believe Kristol is even more batshit crazy than he appears.

McCain's got a tough dilemma in choosing a vp, though. He has to look for someone with strong wingnut fundie credentials, but not so insane as to scare off independents. It will be a tough balancing act.
