What Kind of Wiretap Was On Eliot Spitzer? |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 02:22 PM by Crisco
Wasn't warrantless, by any chance, was it?

2. I Think It's a Legitimate Question |

This was an FBI operation that wasn't doing much of anything and then suddenly moved within 1 month of catching Sptizer. One month!

3. I agree with Crisco. Maybe you don't remember how unethical |
|
the GOP can get when it comes to elections. It wouldn't be the first time. I'll leave room for the possibility.

5. Why would it be a useless tinfoil |
|
thread? It is a valid question and one that should be looked into. All along I have believed that if Bushco and the GOP were wiretapping it would be political enemies, allies, CEOs and corporations first with a few criminal and terror related wiretaps as cover up. Great way to keep and hold power and fill the personal coffers of yourself and friends.
What we peons do has no interest to them since it wouldn't enrich them one way or another but how much they control those with power would hurt us all.

This looks like an ongoing investigation and some serious money involved. Look at this article, it has some details regarding the investigation: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/10/nyregion/10cnd-spitzer.html?hp

8. You never know, they might have had a warrant |
|
and been wasting the taxpayers' money going after hookers instead of going after real criminals in expensive suits.
Spitzer really should have known better. His reputation for busting Wall Street crooks made him the same kind of target Clinton was when he was in office.
He's not the first man in office to be caught with his pants down and he won't be the last. I have never heard him preach to the rest of us on the evils of sex and it was consensual, so I can't see what the fuss was all about.
If they didn't have a warrant and Spitzer was the target, it will make for a very interesting constitutional case.

12. Wasn't he dragged in as a result of a peripheral investigation? |
|
I don't know, but it sounded from the news reports that the escort service was under investigation, and his calls were unintentionally recorded as a result of that investigation.

19. What amounts of money witdrawals qualify for an investigation? |
|
Did he withdraw thousands? Not unusual for a wealthy man, I would think? Or did he withdraw hundreds of thousands of dollars? That might raise a flag? There are a lot of questions here.

Mrs. Grumpy is in another thread with more info on that. I guess the question is, how much money was he depositing on a weekly basis and how much was he wiring out?
Most people write checks or get tellers' checks for large amounts, don't they? So, I can totally see why the bank might see this as suspicious activity.
That said, elsewhere it's published the wiretap on the Emporers' Club ran from Jan 8-Feb 7 (or something close to that), and was renewed on something like Feb 11.
Did they get lucky, or what?
