American Drug War: The Last White Hope
http://www.americandrugwar.com/

Anyone see this? It's on Showtime this month, I think. At least it was on recently.

Mostly stuff I already knew, but some new info as well... and all of it VERY well presented.

Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Also: pass it on.

:hi:

1. I'm going to self-kick this...
as many times as I have to, until it gets some very well-deserved attention.

2. It won't do any good.
Americans are too obsessed with protecting their little snowflakes, they'll never consider that legalization would improve society.

3. Might that obsession not lead them to think about how much more dangerous tobacco and alcohol are?
I would hope so...

4. I'm not sure what you're getting at..
Are you suggesting that alcohol and tobacco should be made illegal? Because thats the only thing I think will come of such a revelation from the majority of americans.

6. We tried that though - prohibition. Cost us plenty and fueled gangs.
Is American society immune to learning stuff?

12. I disagree with that statement. They are more widespread and so have had greater effect
But when it comes to physical danger there are plenty of illicit drugs that are way worse than either Tobacco or Alcohol.

14. Sure there are...
but if you look at how the system is set up, they have illicit drugs which are not as dangerous which are classed as being more dangerous.

I guess I just thought maybe people would see the misinformation and start to think about why they're being lied to.

5. Thanks for the link, redqueen.
I don't have cable, but I do believe the perpetual Orwellian "War Against Drugs" is a colossal folly used as a pretext to wage war against the American People's privacy and freedom, with the inevitable result of dragging our nation down to eventual collapse. I see nothing good coming from this never ending, eternal war except the gradual enslavement of the American People by their government.

They've turned a medical issue in to a criminal one and a criminal issue; Al Quaeda in to a military issue. You can't defeat drugs in a War Against Drugs anymore than you can defeat fear in the "War Against Terror". They're both perpetual and I believe the real target of these wars are the American People by political leaders addicted to power and the people pulling their strings.

7. Oh my pleasure! And yes, they tie the 'war on terror' and 'war on drugs' together.
Really well done. I'm glad it's on cable. I hope people are watching!

16. I think one of the covert reasons for the "war on drugs" is to imprison and
disenfranchise members of the underclass, especially blacks.

17. Whether it's a covert conspiracy or not,
it's very effectively doing just what you say.

18. exactly- part of Nixon's Law and Order campaign
which was related to his "Southern Strategy".

His admin targeted blacks, the poor and young people in order to disenfranchise them, and hence stay in power. Just another episode in the ongoing (attempted?) overthrow of the US by the Republican party.

http://www.druglibrary.org/think/~jnr/nixon.htm

The drugs war started out as a matter of cynical politics. Nixon won office in 1968 largely on the back of a "law and order" campaign. He promised to crack down on street crime and to make the US safe
Once in office, he quickly discovered that the president had no real control over law enforcement and that he would have to run for re-election in 1972 in the face of ample evidence that crime was continuing to rise and that all his tough talk had led nowhere. The solution was to build up a panic about drugs and to invent a war on heroin in which the president could be the hero.
