9. The Clinton campaign not only NOT firing Ferraro for her outrageous remarks...
...but sending both Ferraro and their new campaign manager out to make further disgusting remarks ~ some say it's a tactical move aimed at racist white voters in PA, and, coming on the heels of our Governor's remarks about PA whites not voting for Obama, that's what it looks like.

19. Ferraro? basically she was saying obama is at where he is because
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 09:38 PM by orleans
he's a black man--it almost sounded like she was saying it was due to...what-do-you-call-it?...(shit! can't think of it...) oh, affirmative action or some such shit.

she said this feb. 28
"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," she continued. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/11/756868.aspx

today she defended saying it.
"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

32. Ah, initial comments made in Feb.28 interview, but weren't published until Mar.7.
I was wondering what would have taken so long for there to be a reaction to such a starkly clueless, if not racist or racially-antagonistic, statement.

36. And the proper response to this is to deny that being black is an advantage?
It's either that or some goofy "in spite of" argument. Either way, there's so goddamn much political correctness in this whole farrago of nonsense it's no wonder many people are pissed off.

46. The degree to which so many are willing to stoop, for the sake of Hillary/DLC ...
... has actually amazed me. They're far more desperate and power-hungry than I had thought.

On a related note, I just received a call from the DCCC asking for funds, and I told them that I'm donating only to specific candidates until I see how the nomination process evolves. If the Democratic Party sees fit to overrule the voters, then I'm not funding the machine; I'll stick with support of individuals, only. Pelosi's speaking-out is a good sign, but I'm waiting to see what actions are taken.

24. That's what I've been thinking... absent any prodding or influence.
It seems pretty obvious.

They know that they can't lose many more African-American voters to Obama, and so are betting on the campaign's taking a racial turn netting them more votes overall. They're likely hoping for wide-scale castigation of Ferraro, and privately crossing their fingers that some public African-American figures get involved as well, to drive the white racist blowback.

28. Racist blowback
Whether or not this has been done 'on purpose' the harm Hillary's campaign is doing to racial relations is painful to witness.

KRKaufman, I think you are right and I know with some white people the tactic of exploiting their fears about black people will work. You said:

In my area, people are flooding the office to campaign for Obama ~ the creepier the Clintons get, the more they come, so this tactic could really backfire on them.

I do not know why but Olbermann is on a withchunt against Clinton that seems to be as strenious as his approach to Bush. I am no great fan of Hillary myself, but this is way way too much. If his "Special Comment" is about the primary race then he can simply go fuck himself. I am just plain and simply sick of this shit.

For his open hostility to Ms. Clinton. That is what I'm fucking sick of, that and this obcessive focus on the campaign and personalities with not a god dam work about policy. Not unexpected from either one of the prima donnas we have running but unacceptable for a 'news' cast.

29. If one campaign is spewing not-stop bullshit, smear and innuendo ...
... then it *is* the job of "newscasts" to call them on it. Fortunately for Olbermann, his show isn't a newscast; it's an opinion show, with some news thrown-in as fodder.

And the Clinton campaign is delivering the most comment-worthy "news" in recent weeks. You know what would cause Olbermann to start reporting actual news and issues, the Clinton campaign talking policy and issues, rather than stroking the id of PA racists.

How come she's he divider? I say he's the divider!
Who the hell divided the party? He did! Before he entered the race we were a united party...blacks and whites. Now we're a divided party and he deliberately and intentionally played the race card. What the hell do you think all the he's the second coming of MLK and starting a movement was all about? Wasn't he trying to appeal to racial issues and reminding blacks that they aren't getting what they deserve and he would increase their rights like MLK with his movement? He and Michele are definitely the dividers! Why can't people see that?

43. He's "Damaging The Franchise" -- Hope He'll Change His Mind
This is just not up to "SC standard." Intramural party bickering is just not worthy.

He ought to reserve SCs for comments the nation as a whole needs to hear.

I'm beginning to wonder if more Matthews/DC/Euphemedia is rubbing off on him than the other way around.

Level of anger is an untrustworthy guage for level of importance.

"Damaging the Franchise"????

I don't even watch Olberman but I will now. What time does he come on? it's HILLARY CLINTON'S CAMPAIGN which is 'damaging the franchise.' It's Hillary Clinton's operative who keep exploiting voters FEARS and BIASES. it's her people who've been doing it all along, and this will have the longterm consequences of people -black and white- thinking that the Democratic Party is full of closet racists. The longterm consequences will be hurt and disillusioned citizens and a racial divide worse than it ever was, thanks to the way in which the Clintons chose to campaign. There's a reason people in the Kennedy Family and John Kerry chose to endorse Obama.

I'm a newbie, but Auntie Bush, you surely don't really mean that Obama had no business or right to run for president when he thought best? People like me, who had long ago lost any hope or enthusiam in electoral politics, have been drawn in again because of him. Not his 'personality' but because he is delivering a message we understand. And Hillary is coming behind him everywhere and peeing all over it.

47. Whoa yourself a bit...
First, welcome to DU.

Second, if you expect a response (or even a read) from Auntie Bush you should really reply directly to her post (even if it's just a request for her to view this one) and not simply mention her in this one. Many (most?) people don't read every post in a thread or search for their names. They rely on the My DU page to alert them to when they've received a reply.

Now, as to my post, you misunderstand. I am referring to damaging the "Special Comment Franchise" -- it is a phrase used in marketing and sports these days to refer to dammage to a company, product, or team's reputation/image. Tonight's SC was sub-standard product. It would seem out of place if there were a new book of them published.

But please DO watch the Olbemann show. It is literally the ONLY political program worth viewing. It has been a bit less so of late, particularly for us Non-Hillobamaniacs (yes, there really are those of us who care little which impeachophobe we hold our noses and promote as the less-fascist option for November). But hopefully that's winding down and KO can wind back up on the truths the Euphemedia can't face up to reporting.

And in the meantime his non-herd-bound content is worth the extra fast-forwarding.
