Jeez, if you're George W. Bush sometimes it just doesn't pay to get outta bed in the morning. Like last week, for instance. For awhile it appeared the Bush Crime Family would finally get what they've been lusting after for several years: An honest-to-god war in northern South America. Oh, it would have been grand! The US Navy off the coast of Venezuela (again) launching those oh-so-deadly Tomahawk cruise missiles at downtown Caracas; the Marines storming across the Columbian border into Maracaibo; WMDs to be found in caves in San Cristobal or El Dorado; Exxon/Mobil sending in Blackwater mercenaries to seize - goddamit! - what in fact belongs to Exxon/Mobil: all the oil in Venezuela!

Yes, it would have been grand. Blood! Glory! Oil! The overthrow (permanently this time, by god!) of Hugo Chavez! Did I mention oil?!

But . . . sigh . . . it was not to be. The parties involved - Columbia, Ecuador and Venezuela - took the girly-man way out. The cowardly sons-a-bitches used (choke!) diplomacy to solve their latest US-instigated problem. It got so kissy-face, in fact, that the hated Commie-symp Hugo Chavez's announced Sunday he was restoring full diplomatic ties with Colombia and reopening his country's embassy in Bogota. All this after smoothing over a crisis sparked by Colombia's cross-border attack on a rebel base in Ecuador. Venezuela also invited back Colombian diplomats expelled by Chavez last week. Shit! What's next? Tea parties? Quilting Bees? Group hugs? Where's the war, ya' fruitcakes?

But, it got worse. Columbian President Alvaro Uribe actually (gag!) apologized! To Ecuador, fer crissakes! And, adding insult to injury, Uribe promised never, ever to do it again - never to carry out another act of outright aggression against a neighbor, cross his heart and hope to die. Even if the US promised - yet again - to organize, fund, provide cover, assist in deployment, and actually help pull the triggers. (The BCF is praying for a chance to launch those shiny, sleek, phallic Tomahawk Cruise missiles and time's running out! Hurry! We want war! We want war!)

So, end of story. For now. The underlying tensions remain. Everyone is aware of the historic, rapacious aggressor to the north, now thoroughly pissed it once again missed a chance to glom up all that heavy crude Chavez claims is the property of Venezuela. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said it would be "difficult to recover trust" in Uribe's US-allied government.

Maybe it was the fresh air after taking the Vino 125 out, but I felt better after I ate dinner today.

Called in "sick" again today - I say that in quotes since I've put in well over 300 hours of excess work (I won't call it overtime since I am salaried) in the last six months, and am not going to dip into my sick days.

Hopefully it's something minor that your vet can help with and not a major illness.

I know the feeling you must be going through, I have been dreading the day when Apollo stops being himself and I have to make that decision. We were told after the 1st cancer surgery in October 2006 that he'd live six months. He's still here and still himself for the most part. He's gotten lumpy and lost a little weight, but hopefully he'll make it another few months.

You've given her a very good life, and it's never an easy decision.

LuLu is 20 ! and she's been totally healthy her entire life. She's had a life of luxury and pals. I know she had dementia now, even tho all of her blood work has been good. I've known it's only a matter of time and I think she's letting me know. She's 99% deaf so she screams when she meows. But it's gotten to be so often that I don't know what she wants. I think her time is here, but I told her to let me know.

157. 20 - Yes, she's lived a very long life

Hopefully there is something that can be done, but if it's time, it's time.

Apollo will be turning 8 in April. Unfortunately, the cancer has continued to spread, but the good thing (if there is any) is that the type of cancer he has is slow to metastasize, but it is into his lymph nodes now and the tumors have started to impact his trachea a bit.

I was worried a couple weeks ago because his eating slowed down, but doc suggested I moisten his food, and sure enough, I tried that, and he inhaled it and has gained back one of the two pounds he lost. Fortunately, he could stand to lose a few pounds anyhow, so I suppose it all balances out.

Of course, tonight when I put his evening meal in, he proceed to eat both bowls of food - he didn't give me a chance to moisten it.

So, we'll see how it goes. We didn't think he'd like to see his 7th birthday, and unless something drastically changes, he'll for sure see his 8th.

We don't know how old she is...we adopted her from cat rescue a few years ago. The vet thinks she's blind, but she's an indoor kitty and gets around OK. Not a mean bone in her little body!

Hopefully she'll recover fine. I thought the bump Apollo had was a tooth or something but it was adenocarcinoma of the salivary gland.

Cats often can go blind without their owners knowing about it since they use so many of their other senses so keenly.
