ALF-CIO comes to the rescue to define John W. McCain

"The AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest labor union organization, will announce plans Wednesday for a $53 million effort to elect a Democrat to the White House," according to the Wall Street Journal.

"The AFL-CIO will rely on one of the oldest strategies in the political playbook: Define your opponent before your opponent defines himself. The labor organization will launch its 'McCain Revealed' campaign to paint McCain as anti-worker and to tie him to the economic policies of President Bush."

2. I live in WA state...all I need to know to define McCain is that he
sold out Boeing. He has staffers that are or have been promoting AirBus over Boeing.....that's all.

Good to hear the AFL-CIO is on the war path..I hope they do a huge blitz on the Boeing issue of losing the Air Tanker contract to a French company because of McCain.

4. Boeing had an inferior plane
The Northrup/Airbus plane exceeds Boeing's by 20% in most categories. And there will be 25k new jobs created in the south. I think this is what all the opposition is about.

5. Bullshit...Boeing offered what the AirForce asked for..
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 10:07 PM by MadMaddie
there seems to be some switch and bait going on with the contract.

Don't forget Boeing originally won the contract

25, 000 jobs down south...they don't have the hangers they have to build them.

The planes will be assembled in France and then....wait for it flown to Alabama to be fitted with interiour shit.

44,000 jobs if Boeing got the contract.

You want to know something else...

Look up the life expectencey of an Airbus plane....versus a Boeing plane.

To get parts for an Airbus plane is like pulling teeth.

You wait if this goes through...the AirForce will be replacing the planes on a faster pace because they won't be able to get replacement parts. This is just the beginning....

For your reading pleasure..

OMB: AIR FORCE TANKER DEAL EXPENSE GREATLY OUTWEIGHS BENEFITS
May 7, 2002
Washington, DC - In response to a request by Senator John McCain, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mitch Daniels conducted an analyses of the Air Force tanker deal that would replace the entire KC-135E fleet with 100 Boeing 767 tanker aircraft at a cost of $26 billion, as passed by the Senate last year.

6. If I'm not mistaken,
Boeing was to use their 767 design, which has 20% less fuel capacity. I need to find the link on these stats and I'll get back to you. Look, my preference would be that it went to Boeing.

7. Here you go
Airbus offered the KC-30, based on the Airbus 330-300, which normally sells for $160 million each. The KC-30 carries 20 percent more fuel than the other candidate, the KC-767, plus more cargo pallets (26 versus 19) and passengers. Thus the KC-30 can stay in the air longer, while transferring more fuel.

The KC-767 is based on the Boeing 767-200 airliner, which sells for about $120 million. The 767 has been in service since 1982, and over 800 have been manufactured so far. Boeing also developed the original KC-135 tanker in the 1950s, and has since built over 2,000 of these.

The two engine KC-30 will officially be known as the KC-45A, and will replace the four engine KC-135. The older aircraft carries 90 tons of fuel and can transfer up to 68 tons. Typically, aerial tankers have to service everything from heavy bombers like B-52s, which carry over 140 tons of jet fuel, to fighters like the F-15 (which carry over five tons of fuel). A two engine KC-767 carries about as much fuel as the KC-135, while the KC-30 carries more. The KC-135 has long made itself useful carrying cargo and passengers, as well as fuel, and both the KC-767 and KC-30 have more capacity for this, with the KC-30 having a decisive edge.

Here's the link. I know nothing about this site but it echoes the first story I read that was from either AP, Reuters, ...

10. something I read about McCain recently....
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 03:16 PM by notadmblnd
I can't remember if it was here or somewhere else. But it was talking about his service record and that after he was captured, the military was sort of relieved. Apparently he was responsible for the take down of 5 planes during his career. Only problem was... it was his own sides planes.

I wish I could remember where I saw it. It was an article that had to do with little known facts about him.

11. A year ago McCain said we need Mexican workers cause Americans would not pick lettuce @ $50/hr.

That alone ought to be enough to sink the man in the general.
