Saggy pants law overwhelmingly approved in Riviera Beach

By WILLIAM COOPER JR.

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

RIVIERA BEACH — Pull'em up or pay up! That's the order voters gave tonight by overwhelmingly approving Mayor Thomas Masters "saggy pants" law.

"I am thankful to the people who came out and voted their conscience and defined what is indecent in our city," said Masters after hearing the measure won 72 percent of the vote.

Earlier in the day, Masters feared the saggy pants law was going down in defeat based upon an informal exit poll. But that changed as more voters went to the polls, he said.

Masters believes Riviera Beach is the first large city to pass a saggy pants law through an election. Others have been approved by ordinance through a board vote.

7. come down the Houston where "saggy" means the belt is at the
top of ones thights and ones entire ass (w/ boxers, usually)is hanging out. Used to be called indecent exposure. Why a new law? Just enforce the old one.

I don't like the saggy pants look but I don't think they should be outlawed. Too many old people expect young people to look and act like they did when they were young.

9. Indecent? Not really, but definitely stupid looking. Yesterday I saw this
kid with giant low-hanging baggy pants.. he's walking through deep snow (Cleveland, OH), stopping every few steps to 'pull' his pants up slightly. The pants were completely soaked up to the crotch of the pants -which was just below his knees.

13. Totally bogus.
This is much different than a school or business having a dress code. Restricting what people can wear in a city/town can effectively limit people's choices of where to live.

And "decency" is an outmoded concept invented to further control the minds of humanity. If the Saggy pants aren't injuring you (other than your easily hurt sensibilities) than people can wear whatever they want...

We didn't go to that extreme but we had our styles also. They usually have boxers on but the boxers cover other underwear.

How people dress is often a sign to the group they want to identify with. Just as guys wear dockers to identify with a certain group. Casual Fridays and dockers, group get togethers and saggy pants same same to me.
