Duke of Westminster is client #6 (thats 2!)
The richest man in Great Britain was a customer of the same high-end prostitution service patronized by Gov. Spitzer.

The Duke of Westminster, listed as the world's 46th richest person by Forbes magazine, hired four hookers over a six-week stretch in late 2006 and early last year, the News of the World reported last year.

Despite his incredible wealth, multi-billionaire Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor haggled with one of the Emperors Club girls for the cost of their date, according to the report.

Prostitute Zana Brazdek, then 26, described the 56-year-old Grosvenor as dull and demanding.

"I thought his conversation was quite boring," the Lithuanian woman told the newspaper. "He talked about the Army, going to Afghanistan and bin Laden. And he wanted unprotected sex. I refused."

The court documents that took down Spitzer and identified the disgraced governor at "Client 9" also included information on nine other men who hired hookers from the sex ring.

The documents did not name any of the men, but the papers noted that "Client 6" enjoyed a romp with a hooker named "Astrid" in London. "Client 6" then called the Emperors Club to inquire about another girl for a follow-up session, the papers said.

7. They can renounce a peerage
Tony Benn had a law created, because he wanted to be a properly elected Member of Parliament: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Benn#Peerage_reform

However, this duke wasn't among the ones who were allowed to keep a seat in the House of Lords after 1999, so there's not much for him to step down from. Plus I suspect what he did isn't actually illegal in England - it's illegal to "persistently solicit" in public, but not to aggre to pay for sex in private. The story about him broke last year.

8. And Do We Assume It's All Men???
Women have libidos, too...and the term "Client" can be quite generic. It'd be quite a pisser if we find out that Client 5 or 2 is a she not a he...

The investigation was triggered when Spitzer moved more than $10,000 from one account to another. This set off red flags at the IRS that began the investigation. This isn't selective as this is a law used to monitor the moving of large amounts of cash for things like drug deals or weapons purchases or even high priced hookers. The initial probe was that Spitzer was on the take and moving the money around, and low and behold, the wiretaps showed it was the worlds oldest profession he was investing in. It appears the other Clients were caught in the web...unlucky bastards...and it'll be interesting to see if they or the club is prosecuted.

9. You make a good point.
Some escort services (or whatever you want to call them) serve women, some don't. I don't know about the Emperor's Club.

10. Why is it important that these people be "outed?"
What is up with this perverse fascination with other people's sex lives?

Spitzer can be condemned as a hypocrite - I'll accept that. But who gives a rat's arse what a British Peer or anyone else did with their money, in private? How is that relevant in any way, shape or form? Did the Duke try to get laws passed to stamp out prostitution, and has now been hoisted by his own petard? If his actions relate in no way to his pubic, political position than who cares?

Gads. What are we? Puritans (who, by the way, were a lot more frisky than we're taught in grade school)? Maybe we should stick all these wicked people in the stocks and throw rotten veg at them once they're "outed?" Point fingers and laugh at them? Yeah. Give 'em the one/two of self-righteous indignation?

damn.

11. There must be more
than just 9 clients. Seriously, a whole prostitution ring for just 9 guys isn't very believable.

13. Not even slightly believable. 50 prostitutes several cities around the world,
At least $1.8m being caught in this sting - representing receipts over an unknown time. If there are only 9 clients, that's $200,000 per just over the time frame of the investigation. No, lots of dumb but powerful and/or rich men are being serviced, and then blackmailed or sold, would be my guess. How much would bringing down Spitzer have been worth?
