DE: Taser, stun-gun legislation tabled in House
Legislation to make the unauthorized use of a Taser or similar electronic stun gun a felony was tabled by a House committee Wednesday for a technical correction.

The problem with House Bill 298, sponsored by Rep. Joseph W. Booth, R-Georgetown, is that it use the word "Taser" in the text. That is a registered trademark of Taser International.

The bill is being rewritten to use generic terms in the text, and it is expected to be re-filed next week, according to House Judiciary Chairman Robert J. Valihura Jr., R-Talleyville.

The legislation would not prohibit the use of a stun gun for self-defense. It also would not affect the use of the devices by law enforcement and security officers in the performance of their duties.
