Bush took a veiled shot at Democratic
Bush took a veiled shot at Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama for their criticism of trade agreements that they say put American workers at a disadvantage.

"When times are tough, it's much easier to find somebody else to blame," the president said, without mentioning either candidate by name. "Sometimes that somebody else to blame is somebody in a distant land. It's easy politics. It's easy to go around and hammer on trade."

I'm pretty sure Obama, Hillary and most of the sane world blames Bush not people in distant lands. He's the person that thought massively deflating the dollar would be good for the American economy, he's the one that believe in trickle down economics, he's the one that has an insane regressive tax policy that encourages profit taking instead of reinvestment, he's the one fighting a 5 year war without (in 5 years!) producing a single policy on how to fund the war, he's the one that encouraged ultra low interest rates that spurred the insane, unregulated mortgage loaning that lead to the mortgage crisis, he's the one that has constantly cut support for low and middle income Americans, he's the one that has promoted unfunded government mandates that causes states to increase their taxes,... Mr. President WE BLAME YOU! IT'S YOUR FAULT!

I don't apologize for being a protectionist
I apologize to no one for wanting to protect American jobs.

4. What if China does
not give a tinkers damm about american jobs and only cares about jobs in their country??

Ditto other nations.

Do you think they are just going to cave into a President Clinton's or Obama's demand to redo trade pacts that are presently giving them an edge??

I believe that to be naive.

I want us to do something, but I am not smart enough to know what that is.

But a trade war will not do anyone any good.

And we can not (no matter how much we may like to) become a de facto fortress america (though doing away with 90% percent of our foreign military bases would please me no end).

It is a dilemma.
:hi:

5. Why would that be naive?
I have no doubt other countries would work with the US to redo trade pacts because it's in their best interest. It's certainly not in their best interest to do nothing and face a totally hostile trade pact. Thus it's no surprise Canada has already approached Clinton and Obama (even before knowing they will be the next president) to see exactly where trade talks might be going. It's no doubt other countries have already started talking or will be more than happy to talk.

Foreign jobs and American Jobs are interrelated. The American economy and the world economy are interrelated. It is in no countries best interest to destroy the American economy. In fact Bushes souring relations with other countries stems from his horrible management of the American economy which has had a terrible back lash on their countries economy.
