Health care debate comes to Dover {DE} (Wilmington News-Journal)

DOVER -- Leading the chant with a bullhorn, Sam Lathem rallied the crowd, hoping their words would ring through Legislative Hall and spur lawmakers to action.

About 50 people gathered on the back steps of Legislative Hall Thursday afternoon to make their voices heard on an issue that's fueling debate in political races across the nation.

The group's message to lawmakers was simple: Do something. Now.

At the rally, a number of speakers encouraged support for Sen. Bill 177, which would create a single-payer system in Delaware that would not be run by the government.

"Every industrialized nation in the world has single-payer health care," said Elizabeth Allen, of Millsboro, who carried a sign in support of the bill.
